Qantas now offer a best price guarantee that includes the difference in a voucher and a bonus 1000 QFF points, clearly aiming at Wotif etc:

Book - Hotels - Price Promise - Benefits of booking your hotel at qantas.com

At qantas.com, we're so confident with our hotel rates that we're offering a Price Promise on hotel bookings made between 1 April 2010 and 30 June 2010.

If, after you book a hotel on qantas.com on the same day* you find a lower publicly available rate on any Australian registered website for Fully Comparable Accommodation (including the same hotel, room type, dates, number of nights, number of adults and children, bedding, cancellation policy and inclusions), we will give you a Qantas Holidays voucher~ for the price difference and Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn 1,000 extra points.+

Other conditions apply.

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

So look for hotels on both QF and Wotif websites and where Wotif is cheaper book the hotel with QF and claim the price difference guarantee and a bonus of 1,000 QFF points.

Sound good although the terms and conditions are worded in such a way that QF could get out of the price difference guarantee if there is the slightest difference in the room descriptions.

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

Worries me when they state "the same hotel, room type, dates, number of nights, number of adults and children, bedding, cancellation policy and inclusions".
That's a very broad brush to try and match. The cost of an interpretive lawyer would be more than 1000 points.

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

Would suggest they will get out of most price matches with the cancellation policy exclusion, cheap sites tend to have tighter cancellation policies.

I have used the car version of this offer and it all went smoothly - will be interested to see how the hotel one goes!

Apparently the QF Cars business has picked up considerably (triple digit growth according to AJ) so they must be trying to replicate this in hotels.

Used the car booking once, and lo and behold it wasn't the cheapest. So put in a claim for the points. First of all they said they were different classes of car, which they weren't, then they tried to say the booking and the quote were on different days, which they weren't. Have some mucking around they agreed, so had to give them my bank account to deposit the $300 AUD price difference, and about 6 weeks after the booking the 1000 points came through.

Would imagine that proving a hotel is the same is going to be a lot harder than a car.

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

Unless the price difference is large it sounds like a lot of hard work to get 1000 points

To me it was the principle. They advertise that they have access to the lowest prices, yet on my first try it was proved not to be the case. Certainly makes me think twice about using the cars site next time.

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

Hi all,

I recently was looking for accommodation in Broome and found a hotel cheaper on their own website compared to Qantas.com.

Albiet only being $2 difference I thought bugger it and give it a go. (The terms and conditions were all the same.) Booked with Qantas then saved the hotel website booking page and submitted the Price Promise Claim Form.

Lo and behold three business days later I received this email today:

Hi Markh
Thank you for your recent enquiry in regards to the Hotels at Qantas.Com - Price Promise promotion.

After assessing your claim, we have found the discrepancy is valid and your claim does qualify for our Price Promise promotion.
  • Please be advised that you will shortly receive a Qantas Holidays voucher for the difference in price between Qantas.com and the competitor site.
  • This voucher may only be used to make a new booking on Qantas.com. Please call 1300 Holidays to make a new booking.
  • In addition to the standard points offered for your hotel booking, please note that an additional 1000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points will be added to your account within 6 - 8 weeks.
Please print this e-mail notification out and your voucher when making your new booking.

We appreciate your feedback and strive to offer competitive rates for all hotel bookings at Qantas.com. For further Terms and Conditions relating to the Qantas.com Price Promise Promotion please refer to Qantas.com.

Regards,

Well that was quite painless and worth an extra 1000 points !

I think that using the voucher will be more of a hassle than claiming the 1000 points !

Indeed - and don't you have to pay more if you book through holidays/service centre than online?

It's not the same thing as a refund, so you're effectively paying the higher price to get that point credit, even if only for some time before you get to use the voucher.

In my experience they waive the booking fee when using vouchers issued by Qantas for anything other than booking cancellations.

Hi all,

Hmm... I've just booked with Qantas as well and the actual hotel site was $3 cheaper. The difference was because Qantas had the prices rounded up, whereas the hotel charged it to the cent ($116.25 vs $117). I think I'll submit a claim as well. I doubt I'll ever use the voucher, but the 1000 points could make a difference some day.

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

Qantas rolled over on me because the site I booked through had LESS retrictions on the cancellation.

Qantas had a 72 hr prior to checkin penalty, expedia had 24hr. So it must be exactly the same, not better.

In this case there was a few hundred dollar difference.

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

Yes, the conditions have to be exact in all areas. I found a hotel that was about $150 cheaper on an internet only non-refundable fare, but on the refundable fare, it was exactly the same as Qantas, so no go.

However, I have found a motel in Canberra that is $20 per night cheaper than Qantas. On a 20 day booking, I've got a voucher for $400 now, which will pay for a nice short weekend away somewhere. :)

I still have not got my 1000 pts for the $3 voucher yet. It is almost coming up to 6 weeks, so I think I'll have to chase that up.

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

I have not had a my 1000 points or voucher yet either. Today is 7 weeks since my claim was accepted. They said 6-8 weeks ...

Cheers
Markh

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

1000 pts for each claim are now starting to flow in. I've been credited with 2000 points today for two claims made in mid May.

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

Yup, mine came through last night for my 8th May claim ..

Re: QF now offering best price for hotels or 1000 pts if there not the cheapest in Oz

I'm about to book a hotel with Qantas in Brisbane for a week, and found Hotelclub is cheaper by about $100 for 5 nights.

Having read the terms and conditions indicating the screenshot of a competitor has to be from an Australian registered website, are they referring to something having to end in .com.au ?
