Our intended RTW trip in April/May will now become a trip to the US and back. I'm thinking of going via SYD to LAX, and we'll be spending some time in DFW, SFO, and Anaheim.

Has anyone taken a 3yo/little kid in QF PE before? I'm wondering if PE is worth it - on our international flights with Little Miss so far, we've been in Y, and she's had her own seat between us and lain across us, all arm rests up. We can't do that in PE ... has anyone experienced this? Thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks!

Katie,

I'd love to offer you advice on this but the only time I booked PE we were upgraded to Business. :D

My son was 3.5yo when we travelled Mel-HKG in June 08 in QF PE. The seat was a lot more comfortable than Y and it was a lot easier for him to sleep without bothering the parents.

VOD screen was also a lot better and was able to keep him entertained for quite a few hours.

You have a much better chance of upgrading from PE to J if you decide to use some points.

Our daughter is not yet 2, so she's so far travelled in our laps (less so recently... on recent trips, she's spent the whole time going up and down those bloody 747 stairs). What I've found is that the flight attendants tend to be more attentive and helpful.

The center Y+ section is four across - so having the young lady between you should not be a problem.

I will agree that QF have been quite generous with Y+ bookings where pax have status.......

Happy wandering

We took our 3yr old PE on BA from ORD - LHR - HKG early Jan.. She slept most of the way.. Put her against the window with a couple pillows and reclined.. No complaints.. Will be doing it again in reverse direction end April..

OK, we have a booking (not yet paid or ticketed) for our PE flights. QF11/12 SYD-LAX-SYD. We've been assigned rows 35/36, as there's three of us, we've been given the middle three seats. I'm thinking of keeping it this way, so that neither parent needs to sit next to someone else, as Miss 3 is likely to wander between us if there's an aisle in the middle - if she's already between us in the seats physically, that should reduce her wandering. I hope!

Fare class seems to be B for the PE and whY segements. I'm not sure if I can/should attempt KUP/YUP for the AA flights - LAX-DFW-SFO-LAX. I said something to the TA about K or Y and she wasn't really sure what I was talking about. I guess FF and SCs aren't her area of specialty.
Very excited about the trip, and wondering when I should tell Miss 3 we are going to visit Mickey Mouse. ;)

Go on to aa.com
Look at the flights you might want and check the instant upgrade column
If suitable, HOLD, and then call aa.australia for payment.

The Y sections in Australia will have booked into B class. The PE is probably T or R. Very good fare classes if crediting to AA . Full economy if crediting to QF :p

Thanks Fred. I had a look at the AA site, and the LAX-DFW and DFW-SFO legs are coming up at $820 each leg per person, so it looks like it'll be better to stick with the QF/agent ticket. SFO-LAX is decent though, around $120 pp for the instant upgrade fare! I might just stick with what I've got, as it's about $4.5k pp for full flights.
Though I think I'll book my Disney stuff direct with Disney. The travel brochure prices vs online booking with the AUD are hugely different. But that probably belongs in a Disney forum, not a QFF forum. ;)
