To cut a long story short, I was just checking my RSS feeds before going to bed and a new item appeared on the flight specials feed for Perth.

It is showing PER-LHR return for AUD 603, for flights from 1 Feb - 24 Feb 2009. I'll attach a PDF of this as soon as I get to the office and reduce the file size so I can upload it here.

I thought this was a misprint as it was just way too cheap for that route, so called through to QP service centre and navigated through to international reservations. Gabby was wonderful, and after politely placing me on hold came back and advised that there has been a website error, as there's no fare code in existance for this deal and that the price quoted is the sum of taxes and charges for that routing.

Now for all the general Joe's calling up tonight, that's where the call would have ended (as has just happened to a friend of mine who has been hung up on). Gabby has decided to put the reservation through anyway at the advertised price (and hasn't charged phone booking fee either due to the web error), has grabbed a copy of the web 'error', and put all the notes on the booking, which will be picked up by senior staff tomorrow who will call me to sort this out.

I doubt this fare will hold, considering it is a discount of ~75% of the cheapest advertised regular web fare. But when the call comes through tomorrow, I'll cross my fingers, stay polite and "stick to my guns" (Gabby's words, not mine) and see what comes of it.

Best of luck
In worst case scenario, that they say it was a computer error and they will not honour ticket reservation, you could ask for a confidential settlement of upgrade on next flught to compensate for all the nuisance factor they have placed you in.

A similar cough-up happened in NZ in Sept 08 with KLM
"Following a data input error, you could buy KLM return air fares from Auckland to the UK for fifty dollars, plus taxes.
Five hundred people saw the deal, paid a few hundred dollars each, and got their on-line tickets.
Now KLM wants them back..."

Well, an update to this one. Haven't heard from QF Reservations yet, but there has been a positive change to the reservation details online.

The price for the fare has been updated from zero to the offer price of AUD 603 - so if this bodes well it looks like I have scored the deal. Needless to say there is a friend or three of mine who are currently fuming at this development.
