To cut a long story short, I was just checking my RSS feeds before going to bed and a new item appeared on the flight specials feed for Perth.
It is showing PER-LHR return for AUD 603, for flights from 1 Feb - 24 Feb 2009. I'll attach a PDF of this as soon as I get to the office and reduce the file size so I can upload it here.
I thought this was a misprint as it was just way too cheap for that route, so called through to QP service centre and navigated through to international reservations. Gabby was wonderful, and after politely placing me on hold came back and advised that there has been a website error, as there's no fare code in existance for this deal and that the price quoted is the sum of taxes and charges for that routing.
Now for all the general Joe's calling up tonight, that's where the call would have ended (as has just happened to a friend of mine who has been hung up on). Gabby has decided to put the reservation through anyway at the advertised price (and hasn't charged phone booking fee either due to the web error), has grabbed a copy of the web 'error', and put all the notes on the booking, which will be picked up by senior staff tomorrow who will call me to sort this out.
I doubt this fare will hold, considering it is a discount of ~75% of the cheapest advertised regular web fare. But when the call comes through tomorrow, I'll cross my fingers, stay polite and "stick to my guns" (Gabby's words, not mine) and see what comes of it.
