Just a quick trip report on our flight from Perth to Sydney to Tokyo Haneda in business today, booked with frequent flyers thanks to the amazing advice and support from AFF over the years.

Booked our seats using seatguru input months ago, 5 E F for the domestic A330 leg and 15 J K on the top deck of the B-747 going into Japan. Selected our meals for the international leg (pork for me and chicken schnitzel sandwich for hubby) this week. Couldn’t check in online yesterday but I checked and the seat and meal bookings were still tickety-boo.

Check in today at Perth T4 to front desk crew who weren’t that friendly or helpful but still. No issues with security lines (yay) and into the lounge. We realised heading to the lounge our strays had been changed to sitting separately many rows apart. Asked at the lounge and their said they couldn’t help, or tell us why the change happened, but to ask in Sydney. They managed to get us sitting one behind the other which is an improvement at least.

I wouldn’t usually be too fussed about such a minor issue but my left arm is in a sling (bursitis in the shoulder) so I need hubby’s help with... everything

Boarded and took off on time. Excellent cabin crew, excellent service, totally love the upgraded domestic coast to coast product QF are offering. Watched BlackkKlansman (which I’ve been dying to see) and enjoyed a meal (photo of the menu to follow). I had tomato soup and steak with mashed potatoes, garlic butter and spinach. The steak was overcooked but still a decent effort. Dessert was a warm chocolate and pear tart with chantilly cream. Usually I love a glass of wine but none for me just now as I had a migraine last night and am still a bit wobbly (talk about walking wounded just now).

Arrived Sydney - the bus over to the international terminal was as dysfunctional as ever, and having to carry bags down stairs is beyond inconvenient when your arm is in a sling. Long but quick moving lines at immigration which was odd because they had a large number of the automated lanes closed instead of just letting people pass through all of them. I’m sure there must be a reason.

We had an odd security experience- super friendly and helpful staff. Not your usual surly airport security! Kudos to those guys. Headed to the J lounge to ask for help with the seats . Got some friendly staff on the counter who took my boarding passes and paged me half an hour later to say they’ve flagged one of the people we are sitting next to to ask them if they’ll swap so will keep me posted. It turns out there’s been 2 aircraft changes so everyone is jumbled up- but I thought it was weird my original seat bookings of 15 J and K were still showing up yesterday if that’s the case.

Anyway, it’s not the end of the world but it will be a bit awkward. Cross your fingers for me. I’m hoping to catch some sleep as we land at 5am and don’t have early check in so we better be ready to go! Starting the trip with Tokyo Disneyland / Disney Sea and I cannot wait as we are Disney lovers and I’ve heard from some people that it’s the best Disney in the world. More updates to come!

As I said I had the tomato soup to start and steak which was tasty but really overcooked. The cheeses looked fabulous.

I’m really digging the new menu covers with beautiful Australian landscapes.

The helpful staff at the lounge managed to get the seats sorted for us so I’ve got hubby to be my missing arm. Whether they were successful or not 10/10 impressed with how lovely they were.

This plane has seen better days, it’s an old seat and some significant wear and tear. But I’m on holiday so meh! See you on the other side AFF-ers ✈️
