Hi All;
Not sure if this is a silly question from a newbie, but I will ask it anyway.

I have now reached QF Platinum with partner gold after way too much travel this year, I have six months to go until I am reasessed and my status credits return to zero.
My question is it it worth me racking up more and more SC's with QF I will probably end up with around 5000 by the end of the year or do I chase status with another program such as SQ ??
Most of my trips are business class into SE and North Asia, with a few local economy flights.
Do I actually become a "Higher Platinum" member with QF and thus receive any benefits (apart from the obvious double FF points) or have I "topped out" and should seek greener pastures elsewhere?

Your advice and experieces would be appreciated, did anyone see any tangible benefits tas their SC credits grew above 3000?

Obviously the more SCs you earn the higher your value will be to Qantas. In terms of benefits probably greater chance of op-ups but if you are already travelling in business class then probably not a great benefit.

There is also Lifetime Gold at 14,000 SCs. If you have already achieved it then I guess changing some flights to *Alliance and get *Gold with them could be to your advantage.

Personally if you are happy with Qantas then why chase status with another airline/alliance?

I'm with JohnK, if you only want to fly QF usually status with another airline is useless.

However if you wish to spread it around I guess status with SQ would be good as they cover where you fly, but I would be sticking with QF and getting LTG.

Thanks for the responses.

You are right, I am happy with QF and CX, great service, usually on time. Only thing is that I wish QF would replace their skybeds with a true flat sleeper!! CX and BA ones are great, for the price you pay with QF there should be a true flat sleeper; but that's another topic; but those SQ J sleeprs on the A-380 are tempting..
As for upgrades etc, yes they are very very rare as most times I fly J on 2 class flights.
LTG is a nice ttarget to aim for.

If you are earning that many SCs then LTG cant be far away. Then you have a decision-stick with OW and as soon as requalified WP ? post to another program-Aadvantage has a better burn rate for premium cabin awards generally.
Though getting status on *A will give you a much better choice of airlines for your Asian travels.
Not a bad problem to have though.

If you're happy with QF/CX then I'd probably suggest sticking with them at least until LTG.

Also, it may depend if credit card points come into play at all. If they are significant to you and are going to QF, that's all good. If they're significant and are in a program like Altitude or Amex MR then it may be worth diverting two trips to star alliance to get star gold (two return business class trips to somewhere beyond Singapore should be enough for star gold in Aegean's program, and if it's >2000km beyond Singapore will be enough in NZ program if you want something more local). Obviously, this means if you have points that can go to SQ or TG, when you redeem them you will get star gold benefits.

Woxlee - Like you I reached WP PG in less than 6 months, and have done so for the last 3 years... From what I have heard from discussions with QF (including a special 'high value WP' QFF workshop I was invited to a few months ago) is that 3500+SC is some magic number- and there are plans to have these members recognised , but at this stage discreetly.... lets hope it happens soon as I am still waiting!

In the short term - aim for that LifeTime Gold!

Interesting...

A slightly radical option (subject to 3500 being some magic event) would be to credit all flights to AAdvantage (AA's program) after hitting WP (I personally don't see the value in PG as mrssimongr always flies with me or I would put her in J so gets the benefits anyway).

I haven't crunched the numbers in a while but they often have good redemption rates so might be worth considering.

I must admit I don't personally see the value in PG. Mrs MatF hardly ever flies, and when she does it's always with me, so it's of little to no value to her.

I also find it a little weird that it takes an extra 900 SC's (beyond WP requal) for me to attain PG, but she could get gold herself for 700 SCs (if only she flew!). I presume this is because first qual WP+PG would be 1400 + 700 = 2100 SCs? I wonder if it should be indeed 1200 + 700 = 1900 SCs for requal'ing WPs and 1200 + 600 = 1800 SCs for requal'ing WP+PG?

Anyway ... I think it's shame there isn't some other option beyond WP for those of us who find PG of little value.

Bless you! PG is not to be sneezed at.

One benefit of sticking with QF/OW is that you get a status bonus on miles. Add to cabin bonus and those points really rack up.

There's always CL status - just need to get elected to public office :D

The BA Exec Club scheme was interesting - I was a member before moving to Australia 3 years ago.

You hit Gold (Emerald) at 1500 Status points.

At 2500 status points you were given a free upgrade voucher for two people on a return flight anywhere in the world

At 3500 you were given another upgrade voucher

At 4500 (a stupid number of status credits) you would be given....wait for it..... a Silver (Sapphire) card for your partner - what an anti climax!

The upgrade vouchers were very good and QF should consider I think.

I asked myself the same question a few years ago... Once I hit lifetime gold, I do enough with One World to keep my Platinum status and then switch to Star and Sky Team.

There are better Business Classes (and service) than QF, and because of the way they have the program setup at the moment, I only fly them for a few months a year to keep the OW Platinum alive.

Switch to AA and get the upgrade vouchers upon reaching AA EX Plat each year.

As EWOK said in the previous post, there are other airlines to choose from. Several WP friends of mine fly QF Domestically, but don't touch QF for International travel. If anything, they avoid QF like the plague for Int travel. Each to their own l guess.
