Why can't qantas allow more flexibility into who you can share points with. People are in a variety of relationships - families live together but not formalized yet you must designate under very restrictive options who can and who can't join you when travelling

pmemcm1979,

Welcome to AFF.

I actually think the QF list is quite comprehensive.

'Eligible Family Member' of a Member means any person the Member can demonstrate, to the reasonable satisfaction of Qantas, as being related to that Member in any of the ways described below:

  • Husband/Wife
  • Parent/Step-parent
  • Domestic Partner/De Facto
  • Child, including foster & step-child
  • Brother/Sister
  • Half Brother/Sister
  • Grandparent
  • Grandchild
  • Son/Daughter-in-law
  • Brother/Sister-in-law
  • Father/Mother-in-law
  • Uncle/Aunt
  • Nephew/Niece
  • First cousin
Who else would you want included :?:

Why have any at all. 3 people live in a house sharing the groceries. One pays but the other's are not "on the list" If you buy goods for someone using credit card to get extra warranty - Surely it is the owner of the points who should decide. Just more rules. eg on United Airlines it works that way and also their points required are substantially lower than Qantas. Typical of their arrogance.

Well, simply fly UA then and don't worry about QFF.:p

Seriously, it's a relic of the early day of Qantas/Ansett frequent flyer programs and a relevant taxation decision.

Having just checked with high status UA friends I feel the need to elaborate a little here.

With UA you cannot transfer points to others as you can with Qantas so it is not all roses. You can book points trips for other people but in weighing up the cost you also need to look at the ability of acquiring the points in the first instance and that is not always substantially easier.
