When looking up the cost on QF of a paid flight in Y, SYD-MNL-SYD, one of the options to fly to MNL that comes up is SYD-HKG-MNL (QF127/CX905), for the same cost as a direct flight.

Given that QF127 is an A380 it may be preferable, to direct.

If I booked this am I able to request a points upgrade only on the SYD-HKG flight, or on any part of it for that matter.

You should be able to - it will be a different segment, albeit under same booking number.
May not be able to do it online.

Thanks moa999,

If we go the decision is heading closer to going this way rather than direct, and join the upgrade lottery.

Hi

Yes you will be able to request upgrade on flight to and from Hong Kong but only if you are flying on an eligable fare class. We are travelling to Beijing VIA HK and have requested upgrades on the Syd to Hong Kong Portion only as the rest of thye flight is on Dragon Air.

Good luck
