Noticed this in the fine print regarding QF points upgrades:

"Flight upgrades are not available on heavily discounted fares booked in N, O, P, Q, U, X or Z class"

NOQ are clear - they are all discount economy seats.

U is clear (business via a points upgrade [a personal favourite of mine!]
or redemption seat)

What are PX and Z?

[I know that Z is a discount business seat on star alliance airlines including most notable Lufthansa and United Airlines - which means it is QF's version of I class not that QF sells much I!]

As per NM, seems Qantas's legal team have decided to ensure they cover all bases in regard to upgrade awards.

The nett effect is the status quo, as it was a fact that one could never upgrade award flights per se. You could cancel an award booking and rebook in a higher class should availability arise ... and be liable for a penalty points "fee".
