QF prices gone mad.

In a word, yes.

I looked at Canberra Adelaide for a meeting then onto the Gold Coast for the weekend. Was close to $3k for the Friday I wanted to do it.

My guess is the "saver fare" is pricing as SYD-BNE as an add-on to BNE-AKL, while the "Flex fare" prices as married segments.

I've told them them they are dreaming. Looking to go to Japan J next September from 24-26/9. Would go SYD-HND.
QF prices 24-26/9 are 6918,6934 and 5713 respectively.
JAL 3981 every day.
ANA 4016 every day
Even SQ 3632 every day.

However QF have a sting in the tail. The 5713 is the saver J and only available via MEL. The same applies to the fares on 24,25/9.
The direct SYD flight is 7697,7497 and 7097 respectively.
Why on earth would you go QF when airlines that I consider a better experience are nearly half the price.

That does happen once in a while. A few times I've seen the same also with Finnair where their long-haul PE has cheaper than Y. And don't even look at the price difference between JAL international Y flex vs PE.
It truly does pay off to check all the columns on the pricing page and also the competitors prices...

Not too bad then... Same with the JL option?
CX6320 the JL codeshare? Yeah, on some days that's also cheap.

Return in PE prices at 2300~ pp return over Easter. Not a bad deal IMO. Hopefully the CX First lounge(s) are open to transiting customers by April.

Yea, Qantas gets away with crazy pricing at the moment. I'd love to fly proper QF on one of my upcoming trips but simply cannot justify it if, let's say, JAL costs half the price. I'm hoping that things will normalize again with increased capacity but who knows.

hmmm ... I have been searching flights for the next three weekends ... but didn't end up booking, so this might be QF's way to entice me to procced with the booking?
I hadn't been searching and a reminder was emailed. Still unlikely to use it.

With some Y 3 plus plus plus times more than pre-Covid Y sale, yeah seems annoying

however, with big sports events this similar scenario is normal.

so it would seem it’s more to do with pruned capacity and the way dynamic pricing works as a specific flight loading fills up

A QF Asian sale is on until Monday, nett $709 with voucher.

Still won't use voucher as already booked in period on SQ for $681
