Got a number of QF CHC - BNE direct flights booked for this year and recently received multiple 'your flight has changed' notifications. It would seem the 1605 service has been dropped for a 0605 morning departure! Does anyone know if this is a permanent change?

This is a change they've made for the winter. From 30 March the flights moves to the morning flight from the afternoon one.

At the moment the afternoon flight will resume on 26 October when it switches back and during parts of November/December/January they'll operate both a morning and afternoon flight.

It's worth noting you aren't forced into taking the morning flight and there are a few alternatives in the afternoon you can request with connections, my suggestion is to request these changes via social media (facebook messenger or twitter/x) but over the phone can help and they should also appear in the self rebooking portal:

QF136 4:40pm CHC-SYD arrives SYD 6:10pm 1hr 40min layover then QF552 7:50pm SYD-BNE arrives 9:20pm
QF8765 (EK413) 5:45pm CHC-SYD arrives SYD 7:05pm 2hr 30 min layover then QF556 9:35pm SYD-BNE arrives 11:05pm

Some days via MEL is also possible. Alternative they can add a Air NZ domestic leg (best if on a QF flight number as Gold/Plat get Air NZ domestic lounge access) or Jetstar and then there are afternoon flights to BNE from AKL, WLG and ZQN on some days.

That is so helpful! Because QF made the change to the flights, does that mean there are no change fees? Perhaps just a fare adjustment if necessary? (These are I class fares).

We booked these flights in last year's DSC promotion so odd that they allowed for flight bookings that don't operate over the Winter.

Yes no issues and the change for free. I had booked BNE-MEL-CHC but due to the change on the MEL-CHC flight was able to rebook BNE-MEL-AKL-CHC with no change fees or fare difference.

If you're getting an agent who's telling you there are change fees try again later or go via the social media route.

Just note that if you change to an Emirates, Jetstar or Air New Zealand service then no DSC apply.
