Hi all,

I've noticed that QF likes to block rows 4 and 5 on 73H flights in Y until a day or 2 prior to a flight.

As a WP, can you put in a request for these seats or have them unblocked?

Thanks in advance.

You could try, but I doubt any success.

Simply recheck at 80 hours (or shortly thereafter) before your flight's scheduled departure time. (3 days and 8 Hours).

I am 'batting 1000' at going from row 6 to row 4 on 73H's using this method since this was introduced in May.

Most of the time it should not be an issue as not too many people actually use advance seat selection, T-80 hours seat selection or even OLCI.

I have a flight coming up on Friday and had 6D pre-allocated on a 738 months ago. I forgot to check at T-80 hours and managed to have a look at ~T-72 hours and was still able to get 4A (even though I prefer aisle) and will keep checking until Friday afternoon.

It is very rare for me not to be in the first row of economy and the worst I have had since advance seat selection is the second row of economy.

Yep, I'll echo the other guys. I've always been able to get front row Y at 80h or sometime during that 3rd day before.

Im off topic a little, but does the T80 apply to international seats as well?
It may, but I've never bothered - as a WP I get most available seats open to me after initial booking.

Yes, seat selection opens up a week before and at roughly T-80 a whole load of seats up the front generally become available to me, even as a QP NB. I’m in 4D to ZQN tomorrow morning for example.

How and why? These sorts of seats should only be available to those with status. ;) :p

Can confirm the T-80 seems to apply to international, as when T-80 hit on my last trip to / from AKL a lot more seats were available for selection than before T-80 hit.

Those seats being referred to are already available to those WP to preselect from the time they book.

International is different to Domestic - now I consider it the observed behavior has been the case for international for several years.

With one variance - now only those WITH STATUS (PS+) can select a seat at all before OLCI.

So - back to domestic results - just logged in at T-80 and voila.

Was in 6A with rows 4 & 5 blocked.

At T-80 Row 5 is all unblocked (on E/F), but Row 4 still has A,C & F blocked, but B,D,E are now available.

Logged into QF and moved myself from 6A to 4D, checked back on E/F and now 5A has been blocked and my change into 4D is reflected........ interesting

Is it a free benefit for SGs to select exit row seat?

Just doing seat selection and none of the exit row seats are taken.

When i select one, my booking shows 36K^ in red. but doesn't ask me to pay?
or would i have to pay at checkin?

I agree, I typically seat select row 6 - either A or F (as I prefer a window) and, at T-80, recheck to move into either 4A or 4F. In over a year, I have only had a difficulty twice - and each time ended up in the aisle as opposed to the window in row 4. Sometime post T-80 issues appear to preclude even platinum access to rows 4 and 5 ( such as an aircraft change or a very light load). Access in these instances seems to only be possible at OLCI.

Chairmans lounge members would typically find themselves automatically in row 4.

As a silver status, when booking well ahead, I never seem to get forward of row 19 on a 734 or 738 service. At T-80, however I can generally have a choice of seats much further forward, although not generally rows 4 or 5. I've also noticed that after scoring an exit row once in the past, that I am much more likely to get an exit row on a 767 service, and at less than T-80 can sometimes get an exit row seat on a 734 or 738. Seems to be that once you are known as a suitable exit row candidate you get a preference established in the profile.
