Apologies if this has been asked before, but I can't find the answer.

I am booking a last minute QF flight to SYD-LHR for this Sunday 24/1 (QF1), 48 hrs on the ground, and returning Wed 27/1 (QF32). All through flights on QF, and all in Y. Yuk. Not looking forward to it. The seat maps don't show much available, and really I would just be happy with an aisle.

So far I haven't put any card into the system, as I don't know which card would give me better seating priority (if any) - a QF card with Bronze nothing status, or my AA Emerald card?

The outward flight is booked in Q, so no AA points if I leave that card in there, but I could always put my QF card in the booking at the lounge, after my seat has been issued. The return flight is booked in S, which gives full points on QF, or 2 x half - points on AA, so no real points advantage there.

So it really comes down to who gets better seating priority QF NB, or AA emerald.

PS. I called QF to ask, and they didn't know the answer.

Thanks in advance.

It looks like there are q-blocked seats still available on that flight, so the AA Emerald card would definitely help there (ask them to switch the card over to the QF card at the First lounge in SYD).

I would use AA for int'l - it makes no difference domestically.

Simon, my AA card does make a difference..... I am QF NB, and when my PA uses that number domestically I get seats in the 20 + row range...
When using AA PLat number I can and do often get single digit rows. More often than not, I get row 4-5. When I was AA Emerald, I would consistently get row 4.
I find I have done worse internationally with my AA number on Qantas, than with colleagues using "lesser" QF cards...
In fact I never once received an opup with QF as an Emerald internationally... whereas I have received many with both CX and BA both as an emerald, as well as sapphire.
YMMV.....

I realize that your trip was booked close to departure, but with more advanced bookings I have called QF reservations for international seating with quite reasonable results.......

Happy wandering

Fred

Quick: Put in a points upgrade request for the Economy (S) to Business Class with a fallback to Premium. This will solve most of the seat discomfort issues for the return flight!
