Hi,

Have searched this topic on AFF and have found some answers but I still need to get advice on the following

Our family is flying to Europe later this year - all BA ticketed, flight No's & apart from two flights all BA metal, the other two flights are QF metal on BA code.

I'm pretty confident (after reviewing AFF) that we will earn SC on all flights due to the class of tickets and after checking both QF & BA websites I have confirmed that all but two sectors are a SC match between the two FF programs - see below:-

FLIGHT CLASS QF SC - BA SC

BNE-SYD (D) QF SC 40 - BA SC - 40
SYD-LHR (F) QF SC 360 - BA SC - 330
LHR-MAD (C) QF SC ? - BA SC - 40
CDG-LHR (C) QF SC ? - BA SC - 40
LHR-BKK (F) QF SC 240 - BA SC - 180
BKK-SYD (F) QF SC 180 - BA SC - 180
SYD-BNE (D) QF SC 40 - BA SC - 40

TOTAL QF SC - 940 assuming that LHR-MAD/CDG-LHR earn 40 SC each as per BA

TOTAL BA SC - 850

DIFFERENCE 90 SC - see bold above for the sectors that are different

Now will we earn at the QFF rate or the BA rate ?

The 90 SC are critical to get some of the family into WP.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Cheers

You will earn based on the code that you've booked - so it sounds like you might need to find that extra 90 SCs from somewhere else :(

If you are crediting to the QFF program, you will earn SC in accordance with the QFF status earn charts. There shouldn't be any difference in SC earn based on flying QF or BA, as SC earn is based on distance and class of travel.

If you are crediting to QF then you should pick up SC's as per the QF earning table. I have a BA F MEL-LHR-MEL in Feb 2012 and I expect to pick up 800 SC's for this.

MEL-SYD J - 40
SYD-LHR F - 360
LHR-SYD F - 360
SYD-MEL J - 40

Hope this helps! :)

Edit: As an aside I believe that LHR-MAD in J will be 60SC's for QF.

As already commented, ignore anything on the BA site regarding SC earn. The QF site (as you are a Qantas FF) is the one you need to care about.

A question on the flights. What flight numbers are on LHR-BKK and BKK-SYD? If they are the same flight number (and no 24 hour stopover) then they won't credit as you predict, but rather will credit as one flight LHR-SYD. Likewise, for the SYD-LHR flight, I assume it is one through trip on a single flight number.

Hi Mal,

On the way over it's BA10 with no stopover and the way back both flights are BA9 however, we are having a 4 day stopover in BKK to warm the bones.

That's good news on the SC - it's amazing how addictive those little buggers can be. :D

Thanks for that - what a beauty.

Don't know why but those two flights (SYD-LHR & LHR-BKK) are different SC earns according to the BA webpage. Also as TonyHancock has pointed out the SC earn for LHR-MAD should be 60 as per the miles calculation but BA has it as only 40.

ok, here's the SC tally that I believe will be earnt:

BNE-SYD: 40
SYD-LHR: 360
LHR-MAD: 60
CDG-LHR: 40
LHR-BKK: 240
BKK-SYD: 180
SYD-BNE: 40

(Note the difference going SYD-LHR vs LHR-BKK-SYD!)

Total: 960SC.

Cheers.

Are you going via SIN or BKK. NF for the BKK route has dropped to 7% on ftdashboard and remains at 100% for the SIN route :(:(:(

I would like to squeeze in another question on this matter.

Do you have to have flown the 4 eligible flight on QF to qualify for the status bonus ?

My two kids are traveling with us and have not traveled the 4 flights thus far however, they will earn a lot of SC from this trip - not one to waste easy points.
