I recently booked a QF Super Saver, SIN-PER return..
In the fare conditions it was clearly stated that it was eligible for upgrade – as is normal for a Super Saver.
After completing the booking I tried submitting an upgrade request, but I got a response saying that the fare was not eligible.
I noticed then that it was an ‘N’ class fare rather than the usual ‘V’.
I called QF and they sorted it out without too much fuss but they couldn’t explain why it happened.
These Super Saver fares are still coming up as ‘N’ across range of dates and destinations, so, something to look out for.

p.s. My first post so be gentle with me.

Sickeningthud,

Welcome to AFF. (Interesting handle) ;)

I have not had the issue as I never book Super Saver fares but there has been mentions in the past of this occurring. It would be nice if you could look ahead with QF and see which fare bucket you are booking into.

I'm glad they sorted it out for you. :D

Welcome to AFF - and I do hope your nick is not a reflection on a bad landing somewhere/sometime - nor a premonition!

Thanks for the information; I am looking to buy an airfare Ex Singapore for Jan 2011; and noticed that they booked into higher fare classes for those one ways back to Australia, looks like I got to be careful and the email.

Hello All

Just to note, these anomalies are still happening. Booked a SIN-SYD return for Apr 2011 and selected SUPER SAVER fare. But unable to have it upgraded on the SIN-SYD sector.

A call to the QFF call centre had it fixed.

But I was worried at one stage where I may have paid for a higher fare and not being able to request an upgrade. I almost fell off my chair when I saw it ticketed as N instead of V as previously.

QFF centre was not sure why this has happened and they manually put an upgrade in for me for that sector. I just hope when the time comes to determine the upgrade, they don't see it as an N class fare and automatically reject the request.

Cheers
Mox
PS I also like the idea of buying the return from SIN without having to pay for credit card surcharge ! Although the FX rate fee on my Earth CC will probably amount to just as much.

I'm not trying to upgrade anything, but checking my last purcahse ex-SIN, on Supersaver (SIN-PER-MEL, which was much much cheaper than SIN-MEL), gave booking classes of K,S,N and N. Shows up as Super Saver though (the full fare code is NLSS1YSG)

I was going to post a thread on this but totally forgot about it.

Booked SIN-MEL-SYD//BNE-SYD-SIN last week and it was clearly a Super Saver when I booked it. Looked at my booking later and noticed that all flights had booked into 'N' class. I believe these should have booked into 'V' class.

No big deal as I do not really want to upgrade any of the flights but when it comes to change flights (if necessary) QF will take the difference between 'N' class and the new booking class which may mean a bigger fare difference.

I am not going to bother calling QF as I don't want to attract too much attention or too many questions.

Even better was the airfare has already been charged to Qantas Amex Premium card and the airfare converted to <AUD800 including credit card surcharge. :D

I think you'll find you can upgrade most ex SIN fares, even if booked into N class.

That is certainly good news...And given with the savings from the strong AUD currently, I think those fares ex-Sin are great....! ;)
