Just wondering if past form is a guide to what we can expect over the coming days, with DJ launching more of their changes including the FF program, perhaps the possible double SC promo has been held back. All conjecture of course, there may be nothing, but history has shown QF to be a tactical beast when the competition steps up to the plate!

Double SCs would be nice - just wish they would apply it to all flights - not just QF flights - my SYD-HKG-JED-HKG-SYD on CX would be a very nice earner then (960 SCs).

It was interesting turning on to General Holmes Drive to see the latest QF billboard advertising Skybeds on SYD-PER...

I’m now hoping that the rumoured JQ SC/points earning isn’t just a promotion to way people from Virgin… as it’d certainly make me use it, but I wouldn’t be happy when it was taken away. Double SC or some other incentive would be nice though :)

I assume they need to wait for Virgin to make their move before they announce anything, unless they want some news today and a little more on Thursday to drown things out tomorrow.

You're assuming there was a double SC promotion to hold back.

Qantas is a tactical beast, but it also has more than one piece of weaponary. At the moment, there really is only a single route that they need to respond to, and later then whatever DJ do with the regional flights, and even later when J class starts to roll out.

As for the single route (SYD-PER) then Qantas have already started rolling out the hardware to fight that off. Not sure that an across the board, double SC promotion is something they need to respond further. There may be other reasons to have a double SC promotion, but responding to the A330's between SYD and PER doesn't seem to be enough to fire that off.

Are DJ doing anything with their FF program in the coming days? My impression was that it was coming later in the year.

About the only thing I think Qantas will respond to is a big 1,000,000 seat sale or something easier. I am sure Qantas will respond with something.

Within 24 hours I believe you will see some big changes, pretty much starting with a clean slate from what I understand as an outsider looking in!

Heard something about a taste of Asia sale with QF at the moment...

r.

Totally agree. DJ have not launched anything yet that requires any huge response from QF. Why waste your ammo when all the competition is doing is posturing and talking at the moment.

I'm sure that will change when we actually see some game changing announcements / roll out schedules and hard metal changes - and I look forward to the QF response. They are a tough competitor and are not afraid to get nasty = great for all of us!!!

I am looking at it from a FF response, QF have made massive changes as a result of the A330s being announced for PER and thats just two aircraft so it goes without saying they have more than one way to respond, although I must admit it would be interesting from a fleet perspective to see how they respond to ATRs with J!

Over the past 15 years QF have a history of using the FF program as a primary tool to address competition, the first double SC promo was launched the day TESNA started their program and while it may not be a double SC promo, its cheap and effective for QF.

Regardless, from Wednesday both Prince the Rockstar, Virgin Blue & Velocity will have something in common ;).

Is anyone else surprised to see this sale advertised on TV? I don't recall ever seeing QF ads for sales, rather they have been the children's choir, A388 or recently domestic business class.

"Fly our new Business on Dash8s, and be amongst the first off the plane"... (or watch our competitors come off last).

Dash 8s are single class, while the ATRs have a J in front option that is used by quite a few companies, including LHs regional arms.

how about treating us long term pax a little better..I have had it with the snooty responses I get from Mascot.

I hasten to add on board customer service continues to be great as does phone sales

If one was in the market to book some flights tonight, would one be better off waiting a few days...?

Flying some domestic legs later in the month...:)

So are we expecting QFF to offer something back to frequent flyers to combat DJ after all the recent "enhancements"?

If if they did offer something for the QFF program tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, it won't last long as they will be slowly "enhancing" all the new benefits away inside of 5 years....

JohnK,

Tou are indeed a cynic :!:

But I agree with you.  ;)

I thought JQ was supposed to be making an announcement a couple of days ago about earning QFF points with them? Did they decide to wait until after DJ's announcement, and the hype around Osama dies down (pun intended)?

Or did we all miss something? (I having been checking the JQ website and no press releases have appeared)
