Have managed to avoid the SYD transfer situation for years I now have to revisit it again  The last time I did it I used a taxi to get between DOM and INT and didn't the taxi driver just love that long fare...

Okay so my question for the experts:
I am flying MEL-SYD on QF on one ticket
Then SYD-HNL on JQ on another ticket

JQ states that QF won't tag my bags through to HNL in MEL as it's not on the one ticket, granted the check-in agent MAY do this if they feel like it... But I am not holding my breath.

So after I get off the domestic MEL-SYD flight, I know I can use the QF bus to tranfer to INT but no checked baggage is allowed on it.

So how do I get my bags to the INT terminal to check-in for the SYD-HNL flight on JQ.

I am thinking Taxi again but would prefer the free QF bus as it's much less hassle and faster.

The HNL-SYD-MEL section is okay as I have used the domestic check-in for QF flights in the INT terminal before so luggage hassles are avoided!

If they will not check the bags through, I would just take the train across. If you buy a ticket from the ticket office ( not a machine ) and tell them that u need a ticket to International and that you have an onward flight, they will sell you a ticket for $5

From train station and up to check in and you are at the right end of the terminal for JQ check in

Thanks Dave!

Have done the train before but forgot about that option!

Much easier than the taxi hassles!

+1 with train...

btw, you should be able to purchase a ticket from the machine (for $5)... I did last time I used the train a couple of months ago...

Have they recently changed it? used to be that the fare from machine is the full fare of around $12 with the $5 discount offer only from the ticket office?

Train definitely the simplest, quickest option I'd say.

I can confirm there's a specific terminal transfer option on the touch screens - $5. Not sure when they introduced it because I traditionally used the counters but looked like they added a few options that weren't there before recently.

Go the train!!!!!! If only to help the poor Bankers who bank rolled the idea.

Did exact same trip from Mel in August. QF in Mel (especially the premium desks should know how to do it) One catch though is you can not have already checked in online. If you have you need to get the agent to uncheck you (just tell them before you start you have already OLCI) then do their magic to add another flight to the bag tags (f8 or f10 by memory) Make sure you have your JQ itn also handy.

One thing is they are unable to issue you a BP for jetstar to the US as the jetstar ppl need to add your advance passenger info manually into the system (i just went to the jq service desk in syd after getting off the bus)

enjoy the trip

My experince in May 2008 with the same flights was qantas Melb checked bags all the way through to jetstar Syd, then we transfered on free bus at sydney. On the return walked to transfer bus with bags , where Qantas has a check in counter, took our bags got boarding passes then travelled on free bus again back to domestic terminal, All very easy
