As QF009 noted in the other thread for some of us it'll be much easier / cheaper to attain/maintain status with these changes.

I did a few back of the envelope calculations on my regular SYD-PER-SYD "commute" and for a few dates coming up QF is $514 in Disc Y and DJ is $290 in Disc Y. Given they both get 40SCs return by my calculations it's $8995 to get Gold & $7710 to maintain it with QF and $3625 and $2900 to attain/maintain Gold with DJ.

Likewise. The new DJ Status Tier and Status earn system will be very attractive to a lot of us FF folks, especially as the DJ Gold status is recognized by their other partner airlines.

I'll still maintain QF WP but will now go for DJ Gold and AA EXP instead of WP1. It is a no brainer with the latest DJ move.

True, but you wouldn't be able to take all of your flights within sale periods - and the regular cheapest return fare is $396 return, bringing the final cost somewhat closer (and of course, QF have sales and various different earning options too).

Shame about MH and OW (on one hand) as they were looking like an interesting option for Velocity status.

However, VA had some very competitive transpac J-fares recently, which I think would be very interesting to watch under this new system if they returned.

For the very heavily domestic flyer, the new DJ Gold and qualification targets make for an excellent value proposition.

One has to keep in mind that QF Gold grants oneworld Sapphire benefits, although DJ Gold gives EY and VA benefits, as well as some cross-collaborative benefits with its partners (as they progressively come on board).

I wonder if someone will be able to find a way to accumulate DJ Gold status even cheaper than stated (e.g. DL runs? Not sure yet...) Not that it should be very necessary, since $3,000 - $4,000 is a very modest amount for a very decent status tier. It's also interesting to see DJ's revolutionary rolling year status qualification system (similar to BD - almost - and BA).

Note: perhaps the mods should consider a thread merge?

Looks very enticing, if i were to be ramping up travel. But unfortunately I am not, so i doubt I'll get back to Gold this year, though it does make it easier in the future... when Virgin Australia have a nicer lounge network ;)

This looks good:

Adl/Kul, 3,524 MH miles, 120 DJ SCs
Kul/Bkk, 754 MH miles, 60 DJ SCs

How It Works | Velocity Rewards

360 DJ SCs per Adl/Kul/Bkk/Kul/Adl for say A$2,300 or A$6.39 / DJ SC.

At A$6.39 / DJ SC that is a min spend of ~A$3,200 for 500 DJ SCs / initial DJ Gold or ~A$2,560 to maintain DJ Gold and with MH you get a real business seat.

Me thinks DJ will have a LOT of Golds. Maybe better get in early as the goal posts may shift a bit as the numbers swell.
