Hoping you guys can shed some light.

Mrs wtolmie and daughter are flying LAX-SYD QF12 on 11/7 and the booking has them preselected in 39 J/K. Looking up this flight in expertflyer, its showing 2-4-2 config which is PE ? They are on an award ticket. None of the 744 seat maps on QF website show a 39 JK in WhY that I could see, only PE.

On seat guru, it shows 744 having row 39 in WhY ie 3-4-3..

Which one would be right ? Expert flyer ? if so, would you agree based on that, that this is PE ? She has QF-SG status if that is of any assistance.

Thanks in Advance all !!! My apologies if this is posted in the incorrect area..

Seat Guru is simply a map of a specific aircraft type with recommendations - it does not necessarily show the actual operating aircraft configuration.

E/F is your friend - it shows the configuration for the specific aircraft that is scheduled to operate a flight on a particular day. E/F also shows seating that has been allocated.

So, rely on E/F - it appears Mrs wtolmie and daughter are in PE seats.

Serfty, it appears there is some shuffling of a/c on the US routes through the rest of this year.

Can you please have a look at expertflyer and see the layout for QF15 (BNE-LAX) on Sept 12? On seatcounter it's showing T and W class seating (which i thought was Y+). If so can you tell me how far back Y+ goes? Doesnt make sense to me b/c QF have 4 class, 3class (FJY) but no three class J/Y+/Y? TIA.

I wonder if a 744 with 4 class has been subbed and F will be sold as J? Seems a long was out, but rumour was the 2 class 744s going in for PE fitout? That would be the other option.

Rows 23 and 24? Well i'll have the upgrade to Y+ then (get J seat!)

Weird, but i guess it's such a small cabin people paying for J would be a bit unhappy there. Wonder how long they've been doing this?

Thanks for looking up serfty.

Different but related question. Why would E/F seat map vary from checkmytrip for a SYD-SFO flight in June? Some of what is marked as blocked or occupied on one is listed as available on the other and vice versa. Is one inherently more accurate than the other? I also notice differences in two other trans-Pacifics I have later in the year.

CMT has been returning somewhat garbled seat maps for around 18 months(?).

it does give an adequate guide to configuration (e.g. 2x3x2 above, cabin rows etc) but may not be specific as to exactly what seating is already allocated/Q-blocked/available. (e.g. Most available wheelchair seats on E/F show as allocated on CMT.)

E/F does gives a far more accurate picture ...

Does anyone know if the QF 744's on the QF25/26 MEL-AKL-LAX run are exclusively 2 class? I think the day I fly it is only 2 class, but im curious if that's always the case (back when the flight was run by a 743 or a330-200's it was 2 class).

Its currently always sold as 2-class. However, as with QF175/176 BNE-LAX-BNE there are some services operated by different config aircraft. I believe its most common to use the BNE flight as part of the process for cycling in and out 3-class aircraft (seems to happen at least once a week), but could also happen on the AKL flights.

I got a 3 class on the FRA-SIN-SYD the other night and ended up in the small J cabin. Interesting how and why they cycle the aircraft recently, must be some reason, i was even wondering if it was so VH-OEJ could visit LH technic for some TLC ?
