Flew SYD - PER tonight, QF571 on a dear old 767 in whY.

While I fly this route about once a month, I usually manage to catch an A330, or the soon to be defunct 747 :evil:, and shell out some points for the Skybeds fairly regularly.

I realise I've been spoiled on the newer wide bodies, in J & whY.

This poor old 767 had very decrepit, uncomfortable, seats and the 'communal' video screens... well there wasn't a good quality picture to be found. Audio was very poor also.

I'm assuming these planes will be around for some years while JetSt*r get their fill of 787s... anyone know if QF plan to 'enhance' the interiors?

I realise they've been faithful workhorses for QF, but I hate to think what they'll be like to ride on in, say 5 years time.:oops:

There’s been a few threads and posts about this recently.

I think the outcome was that a few years ago when they had the chance to update the interiors they decided not to as the 787 would be the replacement, then that was delayed and now we’re just waiting for the 787 to arrive, so it’d be a waste of money.

That said, one of the 767’s has the pilot of Q Streaming onboard and I’d assume they’d fit that to all 767’s in the interim once the pilot is over.

I say it all the time, but we here in Australia are spolit beyond beleive. Whilst old, the 767's still do the job and do it well. What Qantas offers on them is about as good as anyone else on similar length domestic routes. Sure they could have done with a make over to make them more visually appealing, but as the other post said the delay in the 787's has delayed the exit of the 767's from Qantas service, so makes no sense what so ever to spend inordiante amounts making them over only to send them to the great parking lot in the sky in a few years time.

Same issue with the 747's which, in hindsite could have done with a spruce up before now, meaning they look a little old and tired, despite them being fully functional and fit for purpose.

The 787s are not replacing the 767s, they will be gone before the QF fleet gets any based on current timings, JQs 11 A330s will move across from next year as they receive their 787s, supplementing the international A330s doing domestic duties to make up the capacity loss, along with the 738s.

I don't travel on them by choice and route to avoid them. If they end up underful or empty perhaps the message will finally get through? Plenty of choice normally on the destinations I need.

The 767 is one of the best a/c built (just ask jb747) but I have to agree that the QF machines really do need a tweak up internally.

Will be interesting to see if the 330s can be clawed back from JQ or if they suddenly decide they should keep them to expand and just make do with 738s...

Also by the time the 330s come across I don't imagine they'll be looking too crash hot either with the thousands of JQ pax destroying them from the inside :p

Im the opposite, i normaly go for the 767's as i find they have more room (in J) and are quicker to get on/off than the 73x's

As bad as the IFE may be, it is infinitely better than what DJ give you in J class on their 737's

Whilst absolutely no fan of the 'digiplayers' or whatever DJ calls them, the above comment is surely a bit tongue in cheek? Would you really prefer fuzzy, scratchy shared projector entertainment, movie of the flight, than personal video on demand ala the digiplayers?

Yes, that’s what I meant to say :p

Either way, something else is replacing them, and the delay is because of the 787’s :D

Many MEL-SYD flights are 767 and those can be near capacity most weeks. Certainly all my flights have.

I am sure the A330's will be refurbed before returning to get rid of the orange stains!

Well I will choose them every time over a 737. I agree they are a bit tired inside, but even I couldn't justify doing them up inside if they are going to be retired soon(ish)

I agree with you. Love the 767 over the 737s.

+1. I always hunt down a 767 over a 737 where I can. I think it's because I like having no middle seat on the outer rows.

Don't think its soonish think its about 3 years the replacement and I'd bet there will be delays in delivery.

AJ has indicated that A330s are in common config now and wont be changed!

Good point about preferring 767s over 737s, especially for short journeys.

It's when your going SYD or MEL to PER and you appreciate some entertainment, and a little comfort in the seat, and there is a fair difference between the 767 and A330/747s available on the same route.... but QF give us discounted prices for 767 journey's don't they
