I'm certain that previously WP/P1 status holders were allowed to go to domestic QF lounges even if they weren't flying?

That doesn't seem to be published anymore on the QF website, and the nearest is reference to on arrival access.

Is this the case that you must now be flying to be eligible?

What if you arrive on a domestic flight with an onward boarding pass to an International connection, and of course plenty of connection time - could you visit the Domestic lounge on "arrival" ..

WP/P1 still have arrivals access(at domestic QF lounges) on a same day flight (regardless of any international flights). That hasn't changed. It's only changed that if not flying on QF/OW (or EK I guess) that day then there is no lounge access. As noted above this benefit was removed in 2011, so has been gone a long time (it took QF another ten or so years to yank the same perk from CL's due to abuse).

I've used arrivals access a number of times - for a pit stop, a drink, or even a spice bar hit before headed home at MEL. No issues at all.

Thanks! have 11hrs in Melbourne, but thought I'd get a snack at Melb Dom J lounge before schlepping it into town and back.

Are you HLO in these cases? I've been WP for a while but somehow I missed this about arrivals access until reading this thread, although most of my flying has been international where it doesn't apply. But I wonder if you have luggage going around and around on the carousel while you slurp your noodles from the spice bar - does Qantas get annoyed? My one related story is that some years ago, I visited the Qantas museum in SYD T3 (will it ever reopen??) for about a half hour after an arriving flight, then went to collect my checked bag and got politely abused by the staff for not picking it up in good time.

yeah, true HLO so much easier. In the case of having bags you'd have to collect them and either find a locker (do they even still exist at terminals these days?) or find some other way to deal with them for sure.

In the case of having a long layoiver prior to an international flight, if same ticket, get the bags checked through, so not an issue to deal with. If not, possibly see if the operating airline will accept it (eg: QF all day check in).. otherwise see if there is a storage option. Definitely makes it more complicated.

I've always been HLO, Usually an interstate meeting for which (day return) I've arrived early into the destination to allow for late/cancelled flight or sometimes I've arrived ahead of interstate colleagues and waited for their flights to land in the lounge.

On very rare occasions also used the lounge on arrivals when the meeting has been cancelled and I've snagged a coffee while I rearrange to fly back same day (March 16 2020 springs eternally to mind as we were forbidden from meetings globally just as I arrived into BNE that morning).

Added: another very handy use of this benefit has been when flying for leisure with Mrs BD, a quick visit to use the toilets on landing - which she is loathed to do onboard (at least flying domestically) and even moreso in the general terminal ... flights to Europe pose a different scenario!!

Regards,

BD

I've entered various lounges after a flight quite a number of times, and have never had to prove that I had just arrived on a flight. I've only ever flashed my card and said "I just came in from [city]" and have been let in. So I don't think it makes a practical difference that the anytime access perk was removed, unless Qantas were to start checking that the person has indeed been on a flight that day prior to entry.

Yeah, they never scan my BP when I'm accessing the lounge on arrival. When I first did it I presented the boarding pass, but it seemed like they just wanted to check the "Service Information" section to ensure I was WP or higher. Now I just flash a WP card and say I'm accessing on arrival, and I just get waived in, including with a guest. Nothing is scanned or recorded.

I've only tried this at SYD, MEL, and DRW.

I have the opposite experience.
Scanned and checked many times.
Including being incorrectly told late last year by CBR that I didn’t have arrivals access.
Another agent intervened and let me in.

So no I wouldn’t advise just flashing the card for anytime access.
