I've noticed on my last few QF AM flights two things:

1. You have to ask for fruit (rather than being on the tray) - I guess they were throwing too many away so that's ok - the FA's offered me one / they were available if you ask. I think some may have noted this already in another thread.

2. My last few flights (?trend forming) is that the breakfast trays in Y had no paper placemat, but the dinner trays did! Is this more cost cutting, or have I just had a weird series in a row? The first time I thought the caterers must just be having a bad day. I know it's pretty much a nothing item, but there's something about having the little piece of paper making it a bit nicer than the slab plastic. Plus any condensation from the milk etc gets absorbed by the paper, and not roll around on the tray (which your seatmate can spill on you as they pass the tray over). Why would they cut it from breakfast, and not dinner.

My next few flights are all in J so i'll have to peer through the curtain (or heaven forbid ask for a Y meal!) - ok, that last bit's not going to happen!

Anyone else noticed this?

Seeing as you have posed such a question doc, I think, for the team, you should forfeit your J seat to anyone in Y behind you to conduct this experiement. Especially someone with AFF luggage tags. :)

I'm all for anything that reduces unnecessary waste, so I'm happy if the placemats are on their way out.

Re Fruit. You are correct. It is still available from the cart, but there was a lot of waste - almost 50% wastage and therefore fruit is loaded at 50% passenger load.

Perhaps i should just stick to checking they're maintained in business class (i've already ascertained their abscence in Y)! :p:mrgreen:
