I'm planning a trip MEL-SIN in Oct 2011. QF Y is $993 on A380. JQ J is $969 (current promo fare until 11 April) on A330. Can't quite decide which to go with. I'm leaning towards JQ (J QFF and SC earn rate) but am nervous about long haul on JQ.

What do you think? Should I go QF or JQ?

I am sure this has been discussed before....JQ all the way....

That was a very clear vote for JQ!

I did a quick search but couldn't find any discussion comparing QF Y and JQ J (or are they even comparable?)

Am in same situation, going with JQ *class but coming back QF as I cannot deal with the overnight flight:shock:

I've done both as well, and generally speaking, when JQ Y+ (masqurading as J) and QF Y are the same price, definitely go for JQ.

I booked MEL-SIN *Class yesterday. *Class all the way with this promo.

Interestingly, the 'Fare type' for my connecting flight MEL-SIN is *Class in the confirmation page, but Jetsaver in the official pdf file.

Extra room in StarClass makes it worth it IMHO. My (limited) experience with StarClass puts it above any Y seat I've been in. SCs are a bonus.

The only real downside to JQ *Class over QF Y is the in-flight entertainment. JQ give you one of the portable devices to use, but that's not as nice as having the seatback unit as per QF.

Just need to be prepared for that if it is an issue.

JQ Starclass hands down. Think of QF domestic business class and that's pretty much what it's like. I'm somebody who would never fly JQ domestically, but I'm sold on their international *class.

Agree - StarClass

Went to SYD-DPS (return) last week with Starclass - was very impressed. Would go as far to say the flight from Sydney was one of the best service flights I've been on! (It was helped by the cabin manager who had recently moved over from QantasLink).

Although he did have once comment... which he expressed quite loudly - "I love working in StarClass but there are quite a few bogans downs the back!

And the QFF points appeared the day!

JQ star class - Just be prepared to bring your own IFE (iPad et all), the digi player they give out is okay but can be limited content. Also there's inseat power between seat console if you need to power your lappy.

oooh! To be honest I've flown *class to Honolulu and to coughet - the bogans don't always limit themselves to the back of the plane...

For another boganfest you should try Hawaiian economy class Sydney to Honolulu when there's a ticket sale on.

do you get business class SC's from star class or is it just at normal Y rates?

Not only down the back, but also IN *Class....(HKT-SYD, Bogan city). ;)
For the price they charge, what do they expect?

JQ starclass handsdown when prices are similar or only a little more than QF Y. Especially if you need some SCs.

Factor in how urgently you need to be there too: JQ's cancellation rates and delays are far higher than Qantas's.
