Just received an email from QF today saying that the QF11 flight I was booked on has now been cancelled on Christmas Day and have been placed on QF107.

At first I thought... bugger (had a good seat allocation) however after further investigation find they are using the A380 on that flight.

Last year on the 25th they cancelled the QF107 flight and had everyone on the QF11 A380 service. I wonder if this is a yearly thing and they just scrap the lightest load flight???

It's an any day of the year thing, provided the cancellation doesnt create major aircraft placement issues.

Clearly, it's more likely to happen in "off peak" periods, Xmas day no exception.

Enjoy the A380.

Enjoy the A380.

As much as I like the A380 for the aircraft it is, I do prefer the service on the 744 Pacific services. I will personally be happy once the 744 interiors are upgraded and the Skybed MkII is installed so all services have the same hard product.

If you're flying in whY I'd suggest jumping on and nabbing 80A/K!

I booked a flight from LHR-PER in April/May next year and had no issues getting it on the way to PER, but on the way back to LHR 80K was already taken ; luckily I could still get 80A.

And remember to put in your upgrade request* in a few days time, you'll be one of the first in the list esp. as a WP. *unless of you are hoping for an op-up

As much as I would like to, upgrade requests probably wont be an option as this is the return leg of a US$798 return fare (just returned on QF74 from SFO yesterday). Although stranger things have happened and availed themselves on previous trips

The good thing is, 3 of the 4 past years when flying on Xmas Day an op-up has been provided (2 x PE, 1 x J) the only non op-up I was already in a PE seat with WHY service (QF73).

At the end of the day, a WHY seat was booked, and if that is where I sit all is good with me, once I land stateside it is all 1st class from there via instant upgrade fares.

I just wonder if they will use the A380 to go to JFK or rely on the A330 or a 744 that would normally sit at LAX all day???

They are now using the A330 that cycles in/out via AKL. I'd expect that to be the same on 25/12. It was only going 5x/wk LAX-JFK at one stage so there's always a chance if bookings are low that pax will be shifted to AA metal anyway.
