Any idea whats happened to next weeks QF 11 service?

I was due to travel with my family on 17/4 in J which was an A380 service departing at 17:30. I logged onto the QF app last night to check seating to find that im now traveling on QF95 out of Melbourne with a connecting flight earlier in the day.

Im guessing the A380 has gone US as QF11 is now a 787 departing at 10:30. I would have much preferred to be on that flight rather than travelling to Melbourne and transferring between terminals. Plus the extra travel time!

Interesting that ive not received any notification from QF it was only by logging in that i noticed the change.

Welcome on board AFF Airlines, gls.
Sad to read of the "changes" even tho you were not informed.
Hopefully you will have enough time to do the transfer in MEL.
At SYD T3 before the flight, if you havent heard anything between now and the exp time/date of dep, tell the check in staff at SYD T3 of the changes, they might already know from their systems.
If all goes well, they can put your bags straight through, most like they can and will.
Have done ADL - MEL arr T1 and out of T2 to AKL many times, its an easy walk across.
Granted, it would have been great if you could have done SYD T1 straight off to the US tho.
Would need extra time, not so much to do OLCI, but more so on the daty of dep might get a ("this is not a Boarding Pass, please approach a staff member who would be happy to check you in") as you will still have to show documentation to staff at SYD T3), and do bag drop.

Was this booked via a TA ?
If booked directly with QF they would usually notify you about the change via email.

What QFF status do you have ?
Unfortunately due to the aircraft sub they have to move quite a few of the pax as there are 70 J seats on the A380 and 42 on the B787.

Pax least likely to get moved are those with status or connecting flights at the other end.

I feel your pain at being swapped out of the direct flight unless of course you wanted the extra status credits that will come with it but I’m guessing not.
You can always call and try to get them to move you. You don’t have to accept what’s on offer.

As mentioned OQB out of action due to hitting some severe turbulence. Sunday and Wednesday flights subbed for 787 (Sunday being a double 787) and retimed to morning departure.

Also additional QF17 added for Thursday to manage overflow.

I've never heard of the 380 being damaged by turbulence, other than cabin damage from ballistic passengers. Any more information?

I don’t have anything more specific, all I know is it was a CASA requirement to do a complete inspection after the aircraft experienced some sever turbulence on the way to LAX. I don’t believe the frame is damaged, just that unscheduled checks now need to be done.

Doesn't OQA (the one that just came back from AUH maintenance) also have refrigeration issues? Pretty sure I saw someone post somewhere yesterday that their flight will have an altered 2nd meal due to the issue.

Thanks for all the replies. My trip was booked by my Amex relationship manager but normally i still get notifications from Qantas directly as well. I’ve been getting the various pre travel emails from QF but still nothing about the change.

I’m only Gold with QF with no flight connections which makes sense that they may have needed to bump me to the MEL flight.

Out of interest, i’ll have approx two hours between flights i’m assuming thats long enough to transit?

Yep for Melbourne should be more the enough. The advantage of all the terminals being connected make connections pretty easy and you don’t even need to go outside or catch a bus.

The J lounge is a bit of a dungeon, but if you have an Amex Platinum then you have a few different lounge options. If the house lounge is open, it pretty good and has great views being upstairs in the terminal.

My QF12 flight (LAX -> SYD) has been swapped to a 787 for Apr 18. Still an aisle PE seat so all good. Will be interesting to see how my previous submitted J upgrade request goes...

There is now some availability on the QF11 morning departure 17/4. Suggest you call and ask to re-instate you to that flight if you prefer not to connect via MEL.

Try to get to T3 at SYD airport as early as you can as possible.
Calling QF/QFF up as an SG, will get the overseas call center, but if you get to SYD T3 as early as you can, they migh be able to put onto an earlier flight from SYD - MEL.
On a linked PNR, you get passport dipped/swiped at SYD T3, so no need to do at MEL T2, SYD T3 should be able to issue you a BP for the flight to MEL, and then the BP for the flight to the US.
At MEL T1, just go straight out of T1, go to T2 upstairs, and self process through outgoing swing gate, which is step 1, then int sec screening, which is step 2, and then outgoing immi via smartgate, which is step 3.
At step 1, you just need to scan your BP on the oblong square bright light reader, which should slide the turnstile open, then go through to int sec screening, then self process via immi.

Looks like we now know whats going on. OQJ landed at London Gatwick earlier today following OQA which landed at LHR as QF1. OQJ seemed to have been a charter.

Guess that's what happened to OPs QF11 flight.
