Hi all, I am flying home in a fortnight on this early flight. Staying at the airport Novotel so not too bad. My questions are how long is considered safe to get airside ? 90 mins to 2 hours and does Qantas have a lounge there? Cheers CM
Any advice gratefully accepted..

I've caught the OMG O'Clock before after staying at the Novotel. I left the airport Novotel 90 minutes prior to departure and had enough time to check in, clear immigration+security, have a light breakfast in the lounge and relax for a bit.

Remember there are a couple of QF flights that leave around the same time (including QF50 to SYD) so check-in will likely be busy.

Yes, they have both Business and First (more like Platinum room) lounges :)

Thanks heaps Ewing. I will be flying "J' so check in should be fairly reasonable. My first ever opportunity for DSC.

Just remember that in AKL there is one queue for:

- Qantas Club
- Gold
- Platinum (and higher)
- Business

Sometimes I have wondered if it might have been quicker to try the regular line.

Once you've checked in, don't forget to stop by the customs pre-clearance desk before leaving the premium check-in area. Then when you go upstairs, keep left and follow the pre-cleared signs :)

Enjoy double SCs!

There is a Qantas check in lounge type thing for business class and status passengers. It is a room to the left of the standard Qantas check in counters. They also have the next gen pole things that you can check in at if you have an Australia or NZ passport, handy if you are travelling with no check bags. Even if you have bags you can still use it but will need to bag drop at a counter which almost defeats the purpose of it.

Also in the Qantas check in lounge is a New Zealand customs/immigration officer who you can do a precleared departure with. Fill out your departure form and hand it to them with your passport and boarding pass. They will put a precleared sticker on your BP so when you go airside you can go through the precleared lane and just need to show your passport and bp.

Enjoy the DSC offer.

I can not offer any more on this topic

Thanks again for the advice folks. Absolute piece of cake and through to the QP in 5 minutes flat.

Just a word of warning - I was meant to be on the slightly earlier LA flight ex-AKL and also stayed at the Novotel. I stayed a little too as I slept through my alarm and missed the LA flight. Just make sure you set a second alarm. I rebooked on QF and in fact the LA flight was cancelled so I would have been rebooked on QF anyway in J at no cost :(
