Just discovered our flight BKK-Syd tomorrow (Tues) has been delayed to 0700 Wed.. Sigh....

It means booking another night accommodation. Would there be any chance of recompense?

That's not good. Qantas should be able to provide accommodation for the night.

I got put up when the delay ended up being 27 hours. Even a 13 hour delay isn’t fair for you to find your own accommodation imho.

Guidance here:

We had a cancelled MEL-SIN flight last week and end up being delayed from 5pm to midday next day . Luckily it wasn’t to busy in MEL and got some accommodation in Docklands pretty close to the limit.

Submitted claim and they are reimbursing it.

Thanks everyone for this. Much appreciated. I had seen the guidance but sometimes what is written and done are different things....

For us we found out about 10pm BKK time and were able to book a room for an extra night. It meant moving rooms but a small inconvenience. The cost is more emotional as we were psyched up to be home after 3 months. Not much we can do about that and if a flight is cancelled then one assumes it is a good reason. 😳. We have received messages about a limited entertainment service so if that was all it was......🤷‍♂️

The other factor - you won't be spending a night on the plane. Which could be a plus or a minus. (for me, always a big plus, but others who sleep well on planes, a negative).

Minus in my case because a 0700 planned departure may mean waking up at sparrows depending on how long it takes to get to the airport from the hotel
Glass half full vs half empty. I'd probably still get 5-6 hrs sleep vs 1-2 on the plane. I'd just treat it as an advance on the time zone change that's going to happen anyway. 0700 BKK =1100 AEST. 0700 for a west bound or north/south bound flight though is a different matter ....

I wonder why this flight is delayed overnight? The inbound QF23 seems to be more or less on-time.

This is the message we got, if it helps... It incorrectly shows the date as the 7th. We had already been notified of the change to the 8th

Hello,
We're sorry, due to a technical fault there may be limited inflight entertainment available onboard your flight, QF24 from Bangkok to Sydney on 7th November.

We are working hard to rectify this fault however, we do not want to cause further inconvenience by significantly delaying the aircraft.

To help you plan, please bring your own device with material for viewing onboard.

Thank you for your understanding.

I'm just wanting to return to the original thrust of this thread. I submitted some accommodation and food receipts today (insignificant $$ for 2 people) and not long after received an email saying.....

"We’d like to apologise for the extended disruption to your flight QF24 from Bangkok on 07 November 2023. In recognition of this experience, Qantas will be giving all passengers (excluding infants) in your booking a $300 AUD travel voucher."

So - what is the brains trust experience? Is this what thy are providing everyone or it is on top of any claim? It should be the latter but one can never know!!!.....

No vouchers offered for our delay. But they did offer reimbursement of the expenses submitted. Maybe they treat (Australian) residents and non-residents differently? .

5000 QFF points or 200 QFF SC.

I would have thought any voucher would be a link. Surprised there was an attachment.

$300 voucher each, x 2 or more, maybe useful, if you are going to fly somewhere overseas far off again, maybe LHR.
I would have asked for the SC tho.
Guess that wasn't an option, as all they offered was the said voucher.

We received a $300 voucher each..... although I am a bit bemused the email was addressed..

Dear Qantas, we have some great news for you. Your Qantas voucher is ready and attached to this email
That just reads like a standard generic voucher. When you book a GV they ask you to put the recipients name.

Rather than go through and generate every passenger, someone probably decided it's easier just to generate them all as Qantas. It has no bearing when you go to actually use it and put in the real details of the travellers later.
