Not sure if this is old news but whilst searching for some award flights next year SYD-SIN QF1 on A380 kept appearing. Initially thought it was a system error with '3' not appearing infront of '1'.

Looking at QF weekly timetable it seems as of 24 March 2012, Current QF31/32 SYD-SIN-LHR route is being re-numbered QF1/2.

Existing QF1/2 SYD-BKK is to become QF23/24. but wait there is more :p:

With no BKK-LHR segments, SYD-BKK will now depart early afternoon instead of late afternoon, meaning a very long transit in BKK to wait for connecting BA flight to LHR . Also appears to be no additional QF SYD-BKK or SYD-SIN flights to make up for BA exiting SYD-BKK route. Less choice for QF/OW customers especially for award flights!

I wasn't aware of it but it makes sense to me to have the flagship route with the lowest number.

I'm booked on BA7311 in May next year. It is the BA codeshare for QF1 :)

I'm a bit worried about the JASA situation! I'm looking for August 2012 and can't find anything at a decent points price yet. :(

This has been previously announced / reported, although I cant recall what the old QF 1/2 becomes (probably JQ something :p:rolleyes: )

I was only able to get JASA to FRA for August next year. This was three weeks ago, and as soon as I booked them there was nothing else a week either side.

Isn't the reason QF31/32 is becoming QF1/2 because the existing QF1/2 will be no more after the announcement that SYD-LHR will only operate on QF metal via SIN?

"Old" QF1/2 will terminate in BKK (and needs a new flight number) - and the corresponsing BA flight will do the same LHR-BKK. In theory, you can still travel QF/BA via BKK to LHR. But QF metal to LHR (and FRA) will only be via SIN, correct. At least until Qantasia gets off the ground and they decide if they want to throw 787s on Asia-Europe routes under their "intra-asia" brand.

Looking at the QF timetable from qantas.com it appears the new flight number is QF23/24

QF23 dep SYD 1235 arr BKK 1855
QF24 dep BKK 2055 arr SYD 0900+1

The booking engine is not currently offering connections to BA metal in HKG or BKK for onward travel to LHR. I believe however that was announced as part of the plan.

At the rate they are going, they may only need QF1 and QF2 to cover all of their International routes :(:mad:

I can see it now. All 787-9's to go to JQ or Qantasia and 767's to remain on QF DOM.

I got a great JASA to FRA, but do keep in mind it's peak summer season to Europe, plus you have the Olympics which will jam things up considerably. When I booked QF were saying fwd bookings for around that time are going nuts.

There are some FASA SYD-SIN and SIN-SYD on QF1/2 for abouth 115,000 each way  during some dates in May/June. Fare is First saver.

I have to be in SIN for a Wedding on 2nd June, thinking of just booking SYD-SIN, but a bit concerned about the $341 cancellation fee, and since the most cash you can pay is $329 & 90,000 FF points, a bit worried how many points i will be refunded if i change my mind.

Its disspointing QF have not added additional BKK capacity to fill the hole left by BA withdrawing. A Mel-BKK or BNE-BKK would be nice. anyone know where QF23/24 flight numbers originate from?

I can see confusion come March next yea:
Pax A: I'm on going to BKK on QF1
Pax B: but I'm going to SIN on QF1

I think the whole point behind this exercise is that there is no hole to fill!

Every time I have flown on QF1/2 and BA 9/10 (once a month for the last 2 years on either airline) the SYD-BKK vv sectors are quite empty whereas the onward BKK-LHR vv sectors are FULL. It seems to me that the current demand between SYD and BKK can be comfortably accommodated on one 747 instead of the current 2.
Having said that, there goes great priced BA/QF flights and the cheap BA Y+ upgrades to europe via BKK.
Might have to start buying more AY fares methinks.
