Booked on QF33 (the SYD-PER leg) but yesterday received notification from Qantas that tomorrow's flight (11 Dec) has been cancelled and we have been moved to QF647, which seems to be departing at the same time as the original flight (15:30) and is operated by the 787... When I look at the history of QF647 it was last operated 9 months ago so seems to be a spare flight number used in some circumstances but I'm just interested if anyone knows why they would do that?

The only changes to my journey will be that this flight is now departing from the domestic terminal so I won't have access to the First Lounge (which was the main reason I booked it) but just curious if anyone has information on why they would do this.

When I search QF33 it is still published as a scheduled flight and not cancelled but obviously they are not flying two 787s between SYD-PER at the exact same time.

For pax traveling onwards to Paris how would this affect them?

QF33 is cancelled, probably maximising loads where there is heavy demand domestically.

Late inbound international 787 going to be held at Perth and return to Europe, perhaps?

QF33 both the SYD-PER and PER-CDG flights are cancelled tomorrow (11/12) and then QF34 CDG-PER on 12/12 and PER-SYD on 13/12.

QF647 is the replacement and will be operated by a 787 (from SYD T3) before becoming QF9 tomorrow from Perth to London.

QF9 is often operated by the inbound of QF10 but it can be other aircraft that switch in and in that case the aircraft from QF10 normally operates QF776 from PER to MEL. This odd shuffle is a way of getting VH-ZNI back over to the east coast but also ensuring there is a new aircraft to operate QF9.

There's often a QF600X that leaves Perth for Sydney shortly after QF10 has offloaded. I've seen it multiple times - it's amazing how quickly a 787 can leap off the ground when it's empty.
