Since when does QF fly from KL? Last time I saw a flight number of 380 with an airline prefix, it was delivery of Singapore's A380.
This isn't an A380 is it?

Think Codeshare with JQ flight.
Now that you mention it, looks that way.. However I can't find QF380 on the QF timetable.. A one off perhaps?

It won't be there since they don't market the JQ codeshares as QF flights. Its really just used for QF FF awards.

I remember flying QF Syd-Kul direct in 1996; I think the service stopped a year or two after. IIRC, it was QF 31/32 and it flew Syd-Kul-Sin return

Would be nice if they brought it back.. got a few trips there in the next few months so would like to post to AA rather than Enrich.

Yeah, I am trying to find the best way to get to KUL and get over the AA EXP hurdle. Options are BNE-SIN-KUL (using MH for last leg, connects well and have done it many times), BA WT+ via SYD and SIN but requires an overnight in SIN, or a DAS13 but means going via NRT in one direction. JQ is not an option for this little black duck. So its likely to come down to what class I will be permitted to book and availability.

I thought I read in one of your posts where you were either over the hurdle or would be soon?
No way will I make the hurdle to EXP. This next trip to PVG will at least get me requalified for AA Plat.
Amazing the accumulation of points on AA. Since qualifying as a candy thief plat last year, I've accumulated enough points for F class return to the UK. Had I stuck with QFF, I wouldn't even be halfway!

Not quite over the hurdle yet, but looking very much like I will. I requalled Plat back in June. Just need to determine if I will need to use my BNE-PER-ADL-BNE end of my DONE4 this year or hold it over until next year.

Don't forget you could get to KUL from SIN on a OW flight.
But may not connect well since it only runs once a day...
JL721 SIN-KUL 20:10 depart
return JL722 KUL-SIN 21:35 depart.

Its an extension of the SIN-KIX flight.

Yeah, its problem is that it really does not connect well for flight to/from Australia. You can make PER-SIN-KUL in one go using QF/JL. But the return KUL-SIN is too late for any of the overnight SIN-Australia flight connections. So its a stopover in SIN to use it.

Its tempting to return using JL for KUL-Sin, then overnight in a hotel and take a daytime SIN-SYD-BNE.

I've used the JL flights SIN-KUL a few times in the past 18 months (prior to them joining OW) but was staying over at both locations each time so didn't have to worry about connections. It's a good service (B767) and was much less than half full in both directions.

The only issue for me was the boredom at KUL waiting for the flight back to SIN in the evening. Most of the shops had shut and there is lack of decent food airside. The small Harrods cafe is about the best there is, unless you go for a liquid meal at Cheers.

Do you know if they have a lounge for OW Sapphire/Emerald and J passengers? the CX lounge would normally not be open at that time of night.

NM,

As JL wasn't part of OW the last time I was in KUL I did not have access to any lounges and had to slum it in the terminal. It looks like that has now changed. According to the JL website, they use the CX lounge in KUL and according to the CX website:

Kuala Lumpur - Cathay Pacific First and Business Class Lounge

Admittance
  • First and Business Class passengers (Cathay Pacific or Dragonair flights)
  • Members of The Marco Polo Club (Silver tier members or above)
  • Cargo Clan Elite members
  • oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members
Opening hours
0700 - 2300
So it all looks good for OW Emerald & Sapphire members.

Thanks, that is good news. I have used the CX lounge many times. Its pretty basic but comfortable enough. It appears that they are keeping it open for the JL flight since the last CX flight of the departs 18:45 (CX1724, a codeshare on MH metal) and the Jl flight departs at 21:45.

I bet the lounge is not open until 23:00 unless the JL flight is delayed.
