I have been patiently waiting for months now for QF63/64 reward seats SYD-JNB for 2024 travel, but until now I am only seeing seats until November 2023.

Last year I booked flights for the following year in early June, so we are now almost 3 months later and still nothing. Is there any way of telling if/when they will release them? Otherwise I will have to book another carrier. Thanks

What dates are you looking to travel?

ProgramDays before departureNotes
Qantas Frequent Flyer353Reduced to 297/323 days for Bronze/ Silver members in premium cabins on most Qantas long-haul flights
300 days for travel on Jetstar
330-339 days for travel on Emirates

I am looking at March/April 2024, which is well within those time frames

Hmm - I'd say it pretty unlikely that they're going to release more.
You've generally got to book them as soon as they become available on the platform (i.e 353 days out) in order to have a hope.
Only saving grace in this instance may be that Qantas is upgrading the service to an A380, so I'd keep an eye on the booking portal when that drops into the inventory (not sure when this will be / if this has already happened)

There seems to be some issue on the portal currently with this route. I have been looking recently for an award trip next year and whenever I choose JNB as either a departure point or destination, the website errors.

Hmm are you sure? I have been watching this route for a number of months, never did I see a single seat appear in 2024. I've even asked my friend who has Platinum status to check. There are still many seats for October and November this year.

You may be right though with the A380 flights from mid-2024 it may be delaying them from releasing award seats at this stage

So for a week or 2 I realized there were a lot of classic reward seats available for 2024, for many days apart from some school holiday periods. Even up until yesterday I could see plenty of availability for direct SYD-JNB.

Now this morning, just as I am ready to book, suddenly there are no reward seats on any direct SYD-JNB flights.... only Emirates or Cathay reward seats are showing.

Is this normal? Bloody frustrating!
