By happenstance we're flying SYD-JNB on what appears to be the first A380 flight on that route (8 Jul 24). We've purchased J seats and have submitted upgrade requests since it wouldn't let us purchase F, does anyone have any insights on the likelihood of the upgrades coming through, or will the "first flight" be filled with travel biz types celebrating the first flight?

The First cabin is full (F0, A0), unfortunately.

The 2nd A380 on 10/7 shows F9. It's possible some QF execs/marketing will be travelling on 8/7 to do some promotion of the A380 on that route. Anything for a bit of publicity...

Looking at the loads on that date, it's unlikely you'll clear.

Looking at the seat map - chokers this far out!

Being the first flight, there might be some VIPs etc?

Well QF did give away the F cabin as redemptions when they first changed the aircraft to an A388... it was possible to book 9 P class redemptions at one point on one flight.
