Does anyone know why they are cancelling the 7pm flights from Cairns to Brisbane next year?
For many years I have worked in Cairns and been able to fly home to Brisbane around 6-7pm.
For some reason starting in Feb next year, they have cancelled that 6or7pm flight and the last flight back is 310pm which makes it impossible to do a full day of work and fly home. The flight is always very full so I'm not sure why they are cancelling it? I am hoping it is just a temporary issue but it has disappeared from their timetable.
I would be grateful if anyone knows what is happening ?

What / from where typically operates the inbound flight? Are there issues with the inbound demand?

If fleet utilisation in tight, it may have been pulled for better yielding flights elsewhere in the network.

Full doesn’t mean profitable of course…..

Yes, I've found it annoying coming in to CNS on Singapore Airlines at 17.10hrs and not being able to get a safe connection onwards from CNS.
It seems no airline wants to do night flights out of CNS. I do have one of those 7PM flights for Jan 4 2023 after Virgin cancelled an 8pm flight but it won't take much of an Airline/Customs/Baggage delay for me to miss it. So I've booked a backup 6am flight the next morning.

CNS is quite tourist-dependent, so pricing is sharper on CNS-BNE than most other Queensland centres, hence likely to be less margin. I'd say @docjames is probably on the money here - inbound flight probably doesn't have the loads and QF pax will probably default to the 0600 departure on Saturdays if they need. Interesting to note that the latest Saturday departure on CNS-BNE is now 1210 (QF711) with JQ running a 1420 being the last southbound service.
