I’m a little confused here flying J From DFW - SYD with my partner and am torn between middle seats with divider or stay alone and both have Window seats?

17 hours is a long time to kill and being able to converse will ease the time however the middle may feel claustrophobi.

Has anyone experienced both? I’ve only ever sat window in J

If you both take window seats expect to not talk the whole flight, except if you both move to the pokey lounge.

In the middle pair you can raise or lower the partition based on when you want to talk. I actually think the middle pair look more open than the window seats, but would not choose middle as I travel solo and wouldn't want to have to converse with seat mate if they tried.

Personal preference - all seats are quite private, the choice is limited interaction for the middle seats or no interaction for the window seats.

If you feel claustrophobic you can take the aisle exposed middle seat (the other seat has the table next to the aisle).

I normally choose the table protected window seats travelling solo - but once on an upgrade got a seat in the middle and really only saw my seat mate when the seat was upright for take off, landing & dining. We didn't speak a word for the entire 15 hour flight.

There’s no lounge on QF8
It’s a B787

QF is pretty much an all night time flight. So not going to see anything out of the windows anyway. I'd be going the middle if you want to converse.

But then again, depends on how much conversation is envisaged. If it is an overnight flight I cannot imagine other PAX would be happy to have someone conversing for hours.

Agreed.
I have flown it a few times most recently last month.

After dinner the pax are kept like mushrooms.
Can’t imagine anyone would be up for a bit of a chat.

As quiet as the 787 is I've never found ambient conversation loud enough to be annoying. The engines still do a good job of drowning it out.

Obviously excludes the loud talkers with no self awareness.

Oh that's right, seems pretty pointless on the A380 too (never saw anyone one sitting there) - would be better to turn one into a curtained off change room to free up wait time for the loo.
I have seen the lounge at standing room only, quite a few times, including one a few weeks ago on QF11. Always good to have a drink there with my partner as we both prefer window seats otherwise.

😂😂😂 we were never on the same A380 flight then! I always sit there for a few hours…
Same here - when I could sneak in there, as usually I was travelling back in Y. But being WP the Cabin Manager would let me go sit up there for a few hours while I got some work done/read my book/had nibbles and bubbles etc. I always felt a bit out of place creeping back down through business, and down the back stairs to get to my seat.

speaking generally, why do people feel to need to talk to anyone on an airplane.

Also this flight departs in the evening. After departure the cabin crew feed the chooks and turn the lights out. By the time you do the loos , JimJams, watch a few movies, "sleep" wake up, loos, cabin crew feeding the chooks again Pre arrival, change into normal clothes, there is really no time for chit chat😀
Whenever I travel with Mrs QS she invariably says "see you in (insert destination"

I find chatting to people flying solo as a business traveller passes the time. I never use to do it, I would always lock myself away, but I experienced some issues with flying and also got very bored of it, hence why I had to recreate the environment. I've met some cracking people this way that I still chat to and find very interesting. If I had stayed in my shell like I normally did I would never have had these experiences. Each to their own and I don't chat to people who want to be to themselves.

Everyone's different I guess. I prefer "me" time on flights and zone out with my own content or theirs.

but anyway re QF8... having done this a few times (and QF22 also DFW-MEL) - as others say, it leaves in the evening. After a full day wherever (either in Dalass or connecting), some drinks or time in the lounge then dinner on the flight taking say 90min or so, it's going to be nearer to midnight local (and later if one comes from further east) and most would be ready to sleep. It's usually a quiet flight. Sure, one doesn't sleep all those hours (without melatonin or something) so sure people wake up and so on. The problem with the 787 is there is no easy area to go like a lounge or anything. i guess maybe the rear galley (staff won't be too happy with people hanging in the fwd galley for obvious reasons, let alone potentially disturbing those around row 1) so it's a little hard.

I think if I was on one of these flights with my partner or travel companion I'd be quite content to have each of us do our own thing and connect at the end of the flight or something.
