Has anyone flown MEL-LAX recently? If so, what meals do they serve? The flight leaves at 11pm. Do they serve dinner after take off?

We flew it in January. I am afraid that I went straight to sleep because it left closer to midnigh but believe that the normal sized meal was served. However, as the business class lounge was closed and we had to go to the first class lounge before take off, we had had a good dinner before we left so didn’t need to wait for dinner on the plane. Highly recommend the pavlova!

QF11 doesn’t leave much earlier and I flew that in Jan. It was a full dinner service. A hot breakfast was served before landing (despite landing at 5pm!)

I flew QF93 a few years ago and it was the same deal.

It's supper out of Melbourne (no bar service in any cabin, no starter in J and no ice cream in economy after the meal), snacks throughout in all cabins (with J and W having a menu with snacks and hot snacks, Y having snacks with a mid-flight hot snack) and breakfast into LAX.

I flew SYD-HNL in January an it was a full Dinner service. The menus are likely similar - here's some pics of the menu I had.

No bar service? You sure you weren't flying Jetstar?

I've never been on a QFi flight without bar service. Ever.

I think milehighclub is referring to a separate bar service - ie they pass through the cabin for the sole purpose of serving drinks.

Drinks are still available with supper service, just with the meal, not separate.

replying to my own post here as I can’t edit now… of course it was milehighclub’s post, not serfty’s!

I think the bar + food at the same time and all courses on one tray is a covid measure, don't think it's got anything to do with time of day.

As for no bar service in J that doesn't sound right at all. I certainly didn't have to wait for the food to get a drink on QF11, they were offered shortly after take off.

Whether it's called supper or dinner, I've never noticed a difference.

Supper flights have never had bar services (as in a separate drink only service before the meal) in J.

The only covid currently in place at the moment is the tray, but even on dinner/lunch flights, it isn't all at the same time (entree followed by main) and they do have a bar service, which differentiates them from supper (no pre meal drink and no entree).

Notwithstanding your experience, that isn't the norm.

agree. the separate bar service for supper flights was dispensed with long before covid :(

I can't say I've ever recognised a bar service, I just get offered drinks.

Y'all saying you're flying QFi in J and they won't give you a drink until the meal is served? Which usually takes 90+ minutes after take off?

Maybe I've just had extraordinary good luck with good crews. Because that sounds like terrible service for any airline, and I've never experienced that.

allegedly… for supper flights. The idea is crew are preparing your meals as quickly as possible so you can get to sleep, not taking time to serve drinks first.

Have they announced when the A380 is coming back on QF93?
Was looking at F seats to LAX and realised the reason why the results only show connections via SYD is because QF93 is a 787 😂

Probably not until there's more than 6 A380s returned - 6 is enough for SYD-LAX & LHR.
