...and I want to go to the US in October.

I have been saving my points for quite a few years. I have already booked my flights as follows but in hindsight I don't know if that was the best way to maximise the points and QFF. Anything I could have done better? I know there are plenty of experienced flyers on this website so am interested in their views.

1. Used 64,000 on an award flight SYD-JFK on QF107. Just need to pay the charges.
2. Have purchased a QF one-way flight LAX-SYD on QF12 to come home. Will attempt an upgrade using the remainder of my points (plus a bit more I need to rack up before then).
3. Have purchased internal US flights on AA. I think I will get QFF points for doing this or do I just get status credits?

I know it's a bit late to ask now if there was a better way, but I'm interested to know.

Thanks.

If your booking is in an eligible booking class, you’ll receive points and SC’s, as AA are OneWorld partners!

Correct, the only thing you'll miss out on is the status % bonus for the FF points, which doesn't really mean much as a bronze.

I still remember fondly the trip from LAS to LAX, part of a J Itinerary that booked in F for this leg on AA, as AA don't have J on that routing. So many status credits for such a short flight :)

Well it’s irrelevant as a Bronze, but I was under the impression that if you had status you would get the bonus on AA:

Earn a Status bonus of [25% for Silver] more points than the base Economy rate every time you fly on eligible flights with a Qantas, Jetstar, British Airways or American Airlines flight number on your ticket.

Haha, you are right again, I forgot AA were included, thought it was only QF and BA. So it's win-win!

if this was me, i'd be looking for a one way award in business class syd-lax and then purchase a lax-nyc return.

getting to the mainland usa in business class is much worth it especially if you can jump on an a380! flying lax to nyc is relatively inexpensive anyway compared to flying across the pacific, so make it to the west coast, then make your way from there.....

i found quite a few seats in october, so consider forfeiting 5k points to upgrade to business class ... good luck.
