First time AFF user. Can’t believe the difference between the two levels, every flight out of SYD/MELB peak hr’s sitting in row 18 – 26 on a 737 to 4/6D now. Then add a greeting (Welcome back with your name) when you board. Goodness me. If only they did this too all FF levels.

You got a personal greeting once seated? Wow, you must be the minority!

But yes, seat selection benefit is great.

I’m a Silver and have sat in the front 2 rows (of Y) a lot recently too ;)

It can be done without much status.

In my experience the greeting is inconsistent from flight to flight so highly unlikely that all FFers would get the greeting.

What it does show is the number of Plats flying SYD-MEL in the peak periods.

Agree the greeting is inconsistent, particularly with those who don't know how to read the new thermal tags.

Ahh - just wait until you are flying international and get escorted down to the plane - has happened to me a number of times now at Heathrow!

I got off a Cathay flight in Hong Kong, met by the customer service manager :o with a placard with my name on it, whisked through the express "crew" lanes at security and deposited in the comfort of the Qantas lounge ready to prepare myself for my onward Qantas flight. I asked if she did this for many passengers and she said "sometimes we get a bit bored at night" :D

Sounds like they were making sure you got on to the flight. ;) :p

Sounds great. Were you flying in a premium cabin?

In 17 flights in November, I received 2 welcome aboard greetings.

One was on QF10, LHR-SIN.

Some very interesting & good feedback, thanks to all for the welcome!! agree about making sure I got on the plane but, have missed a couple in my time. Now just need to work the free drink thing outside Cityflyer routes. who's done this? whats the go here?

Ah - I'll play the new guy card, what's flying J??

It is flying business class (most business class flights book into "J" class, you'll also see "F" for first class, and "Y" for (discount) economy), and as such is the "short hand".

Yes this has happened to me a few times ( not always ) still don't know what the trick is, if in doubt have nothing less than a $50 ;p

Ah - I'm across it now, thanks for the run down. have noticed Flexsavers are better for SC, which makes up/for all my return flights.

Happened to me the other day on a Darwin-Adelaide. Didn't cross my mind it wasn't a CityFlyer with free drink with lunch until I was asked for six bucks. Probably rather loudly (getting deaf in my old age) I said "You have to be joking, obviously more competition is needed on this route". When I reached into my pocket for the required shekels it was dismissed with a wave of the (limp) wrist.

I think the reference was not to an in seat greeting but a "Hello Mr Simongr" when boarding when they read the BP rather than just a "Second aisle on the left". I get this very consistently.

I had this at BKK with CX as well - and I had a 5 hour transit...

I find it very inconsistant with QANTAS.

I was not acknowledged by name, flying F, MEL-BKK the other day.

In fact, the first time my name was used, was when the pilot came down to introduce himself to the passengers in F and have a little chat as they usually do.

This flight caused me to write to QANTAS and complain about the level of service.

I thought Cityflyer drinks were only after 4pm, lunch was always pay
