I am beginning to wonder why I stay loyal to the QFF program. Last week I travelled SIN-SGN-HAN-SIN and not once could I access the club lounge even though I am Platinum.

Qantas doesn't offer any other flights to the area and when I called enquiring about the lounge policy, was pleasantly informed that only JQ flights were acceptable. Gee, thanks for rewarding my loyalty to your airline - NOT. Obviously they don't really appreciate those of us who spend a few $100k year flying with them over their competition.

Thought I'd do the right thing and support the subsidiary airline, but next time - I'll happily fly Thai Airways direct - at least I'll fly in comfort, be treated like a human being and at the rate I fly, get lounge access in no time!!;)

As platinum you should have anytime access to QF lounge?:confused::confused:

Are there any OW lounges in SGN or HAN.I know CX fly there. But you definitely should have had access in SIN.

I have had access to the QF Business Lounge in SYD, SIN (x2) and BKK (also had a guest with me who was travelling on TG) while travelling on SQ.

I don't think QF have a lounge in SGN or HAN so you would not have anytime access at these airports.

I thought the same, however, upon calling, was advised no access unless on a JQ flight.
No there are no lounges in SGN or HAN - this was in SIN.

Maybe on my one previous occasion last year I was lucky (although I was advised that I should be using the Business Lounge should the First Lounge get full.)

A friend did had access the the Business lounge (flying BA) - First not open early am. They found it rather strange as it was basically empty save for 3 other passengers catching up on sleep. And nothing being served - no water, no coffee, no snacks - what gives? They were quite taken aback by the lack of facilities and restriction of access.

Oh well, Qantas' loss will be another airline's gain.:D

As WP, you are entitled to use the SIN First lounge only if Flying QF, JQ or a oneworld airline.

As a WP you are entitled to use the SIN J lounge whenever travelling, irrespective of which airline you are flying. More here: Fly - The Qantas Club - Lounge Access

Wrong advice given. As a Platinum I have accessed the QF business lounge at SIN under the anytime access rule flying various airlines, including Thai, Jetstar Asia, Air Asia, Singapore Airlines, Emirates & Malaysian. Never had a problem, and most recent visit was on 31 March. Will probably be doing again this weekend.

There are of course considerations of capacity constraints at times - the lounges might have been full with QF passengers stuck due to the ash cloud thus forcing QF to use capacity constraints.

This would be the only logical reason...

by the way (OP), who did you call and why? Being a WP, I would have expected you would "know the rules" and would have just wandered into the F or J lounge in SIN, or staked out a OW lounge in the other destinations.

In my many years of travelling, I have never rung anyone before a flight to see if I had access - each to their own I guess.

So, you will be moving to *A from now? No domestic lounges in Australia, but if your travel is all OS I guess that wont matter

Mr!

Not all Platinums, and more than likely Golds as well, would be aware of all the benefits associated with their status so they would believe what they are told by Qantas staff.

... and we do know how inconsistant the info from QF staff can be on occasions :!:

Yes, when in LAX two months back after checking in I asked the QF staffer who was hanging around the 1st Class check in que which way to the OW lounge to be told I had to "have an invite" and she wouldn't tell me where it was. I assured her I could get in and she repeated if I didn't have a "personal invite" I couldn't get in. (she wouldn't tell me who could give me a personal invite either when I pushed her, nothing like asking someone for their back up information)

Although a bit put off I found my own way and of course, they let me in without a "personal invite".

She was just an idiot sprouting incorrect information, every big organisation has a few and QF is no exception.

Most times I've flown through TBIT (as a QP NB/PS), I have been given a slip of paper at check-in with instructions on how to find the One World lounge. I did not get the slip of paper/"invitation" late Oct last year, but I was flying J instead of Y.
I think the second time I was given the slip of paper, I told the checkin agent that it was OK, I knew where to find the lounge. They told me I had to have the slip of paper, with my boarding pass/QP card to get into the lounge. The slip was collected by the lounge ladies/dragons when I arrived.

Last year I just rocked up to the LAX TBIT with my boarding pass (an AA issue one from MIA) where they said I'd need to be given a QF stock boarding pass (which they printed for me on the spot) and they then waived me in. No stuffing around needing to get "special invites", and IMHO as bad a TBIT is, it was easy enough to find the QF \ OW lounge.
