Hi,

Just joined the QP and have been exploring all of the QF site including FF offers...

Came across a QF luggage range, particularly for carry-on - has anyone had any experience with this luggage/seen it/heard about it? Is this just a gimmick, or are QF serious trying to appeal to travelers with something that actually works?

I've done a bit of searching here, but the forums seem to be quiet on the QF branded range...

I like some of the inclusions with this 'SmartPack' luggage - mostly the shirt things that stop them from getting too crushed in your bag etc

Whilst I could not be considered a true FF, I do travel OS at least once a year, sometimes two and also do the occasional domestic.

Thanks to this site I'm planning to make the effort to use points wisely over the coming years, so hope to travel more and if its worth it even get into the occasional status/mile run..:o

If anyone thinks this luggage isn't the way to go - any other thoughts on good carry-on for the occasional but seasoned traveller?

Appreciate any thoughts/suggestions

I have had a Qantas branded small bag on wheels with extendable handle for about 2years now, very strong and durable.
Got it from a Big Dept store on sale.

I've had a couple of the QFF carry-on bags now, the first one lasted over five years of pretty brutal treatment and the second one is still going strong. The design is pretty good overall, though they modified the design a bit on the newer one which I didn't find quite as good (the main compartment has been padded which is good for carrying a laptop, but reduces space if used for clothing). Some of the other luggage items look a little overpriced, but I'm sure if they fit your needs they'd be worthwhile.

My wife was given a rolling case as a gift - it is though a strange size - to big for carryon and too small for useful checked luggage...

I've got two Qantas branded bags (one laptop bag and a large suitcase) and they're both quite good, very strong however also very heavy.

For what they charge I'd say you're better off waiting for a 40/50% off sale at DJ's or Myer and getting a good Samsonite one.

I have one of the 19 inch rollerpack, sold by 3pmarketing (through the QF website). Very, very reliable. The wheels are very strong and have survived cobblestoned streets and bitumen roads with ease. It fits easily into the overhead locker even on 737s. I would thoroughly recommend it.

I've also got a Qantas carry-on. Used it every week commuting from Adelaide to Sydney. I'm retired now, but it saw four years of "active service" and replaced another Qantas bag that lasted 5 years.

Just a suggestion. Whichever one you end up buying, make sure that you test drive it and that the handle is long enough when extended such that you are not hitting your heels on the damn thing all the time.

I love my qantas smartpack roller carry on (I know that sounds slightly sad, but I'm a simple man:cool:.... I bought it online about three years ago (from memory) and confidently stuff it full happy in the knowledge that as qantas sold it to me as a carry on I won't be challenged at the gate.
I can fit enough clothes in it to go away indefinitely.

It came with a couple of the shirt frames which i love , if for no other reason that it impresses my sisters who both assumed their older brother was too "bachelored" to know how to fold a shirt let alone actually fold one.

Like others I'm impressed by the resilience of the wheels which have been dragged along kilometres of concrete, ashpalt, gravel and lawn all without a problem. Much sturdier IMO than my previous roller bags.

I recently purchased a Qantas branded cabin size rolling bag from a luggage shop in Perth CBD.

I was a little sceptical on the quality and durability. The shop owner told me the range is made under contract for QF by a luggage company in Adelaide.

I was prepared to give the bag a go when the shop owner reassurred me about the quality and I was sold when I was told it come with a 10 year warranty.

Its been great for domestic runs and I will have no hesitation in buying a larger one for carry on roller for international runs when I need to replace the current Samosite.

Dont buy from the QF web site - shop around your local luggage retailers for a cheaper price..
