was reading up on a few things, apparently top tier AA frequent flyers get automatic upgrade on their domestic flights?

does this benefit extend to OW Emerald (QFF Plat)?

any personal experience is welcome here....

Not extended to other OWE's. It isn't a OW benefit, it is a Airline benefit called "500-Mile Upgrades"

AA EXP(OWE) do not have to use stickers to upgrade domestically. For International flights they get EVIPs(system wide upgrades) that are complimentary for every year that they qualify as EXP.
This is a feature of Aadvantage.
Lesser mortals get the 500 mile stickers-4 for every 10000 miles flown. These are for gold and plat. From December 1 will also get 4 EVIPs for each 1 million miles flown.Until then it is only for foreign based members but was for each million miles no matter how obtained.

So WPs do not qualify for these benefits.

non AA Emerald certainly do not qualify for complimentary, space available upgrades within the context of the AAdvantage program.

However, many of their Legacy computer systems show one as EXP and other top level status benefits can apply (Standby priority, preferred seating and the odd op-up [;)].)

Hi there,

Just some thing on the side, slight off topic.

Flew 6 sectors on AA as a OWE.

They are fantastic, to be honest they treat me better than QF has ever did....they go out of their way to help with seats reallocations etc....quite amazing also that this was the states.

Their priority tagging for lugguage worked everytime, the security queue jumping was great, extra lugguage at 70 pounds was honoured :) , PRIORITY BOARDING was AMAZING and it WORKED!! OMG

The hard product is very ordinary, no meals just drinks, even on transcontinental 6 hr flights....

The soft product was flawless.....QF should learn from AA and some of the Asian carriers like CX and SQ. Especially now that AJ wants to compete in Asia.

You are much less likely on AA to get an opup even than qantas due to the availability of free upgrades for AA elites through other mechanisms...

It has happened to me twice on about 10 economy flights¹. In both cases the First Cabin was only ½ full - rare in itself to not have every Foirst class seat occupied.

In any case, these were only LAX-SFO and LAS-LAX.

Other bennies were being #1 and #2 on 90+ strong Standby waitlist when flights were cancelled out of LGA due to storms.

¹ All my other AA segments have been in First/Business class.

I had an Opup YYZ-LAX last year which was most appreciated :)

I've had an op-up on AA flying in discount Y, as a result of my oneworld Emerald status with QF.

Same here. ...

Cannot recall ever (at least not in the last year- have dodgy memory) being in a "First" AA cabin that did not have every seat occupied. I suppose their upgrade system lets heaps of pax get upgraded, but at the same time it seems that every single flight their are a gaggle of pax waiting for upgrades at the gate that don't get them, so they must get peeved or at least disappointed.

I have travelled in AA First class domestic cabins scores of times about 1 in 20 (5%) is not filled.

Normally, the rare occasion that this is for morning/short flights where the burning of 'stickers' might not be considered good value.

Hello,
Might have been answered before now so if so apology for this question.
I have booked three AA domestic flights on-line via the aa.com site, I entered my Platinum number so will I be get the recognized as a Qantas platinum member? I called Qantas Platinum number and was advised that it was a different system, and unable to enter these bookings in ‘My Bookings’ section, so I can see them. I guess I just show my card and should be okay.

That's fairly consistent with my AA F experience too. I was bumped to F on a LAX-LAS sector on thanksgiving day. Apparently no one wanted to go *to* LAS on that day :)

Another area where QF is behind. For many reasons we use a Travel agent to book our airfares.unfortunately they now ticket through QF.However
When I put in my AA number on the QF booking it automatically shows up on aa.com under my bookings.
The other good this time is that using EVIPS i didn't have to be re ticketed to AA stock so our upgrade request on QF was not compromised.
