I am wondering if any readers have had had requests for points refused at hotels for any reason (when hotel is a partner in the program). My inquiry stems from booking I made thru WOTIF when payment was made to WOTIF and the hotel would not give points for the stay.

It's increasingly common for hotels not to give points for stays that are booked through a third party.

Its very uncommon to get Qantas points when booking through a third party such as Wotif.
A rule of thumb also seems to be if you pay a third party direct, no points.
If you pay the hotel direct, may be entitled to points.

Unfortunately, within the T&Cs for earn on hotel stays there is this lovely little paragraph:

Some wholesale, industry and package rates do not attract Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Qantas Frequent Flyer points may only be awarded for a maximum of seven nights per stay. Refer to terms and conditions for further details including points calculations, exclusions and restrictions

I have the same worry about 3 stays I have in early 2009, I have the choice of 2 hotels, one that is 2 minutes walk to where I need to be working, the other is the same price, but 20 minutes walk, but is on the Qantas partner hotel list. The problem is that we have a very good corporate rate (65% off rack rate), so I'm unsure whether to take the chance and book that one and have a 20 min walk for a potential 1000 points.

I have also been knocked back when using RACQ rates-but booked directly with hotel.

I have generally not had issues if i book through my corporate hotel booking, but wotif etc for sure no points in any i have booked.
So maybe you chance it, depends who runs your corporate booking service, we have some special half internal / half external travel department that takes care of our bookings.

I have never received QFF points where I did not pay for the room via QF or the hotel direct. But even if paying a third party all spend at the hotel is still eligible for QFF points most of the time.

I was refused QFF points one time last year when I booked at the Mercure Broome using the Accor website. It was a commonly available rate but Accor did not want to give QFF points for the stay. I have been avoiding Accor hotels, unless booked through QF, since then.

The Mercure Inn Broome is like that, the very first time I went to BME I stayed there and had to fight tooth and nail to get the points :evil:

9.6 Earning Points for Hotel Stays
9.6.1 Points in relation to goods and services of hotel Non-airline Partners are earned in accordance with the rates and terms and conditions determined by the hotel and are subject to change. Members should check the applicable rates, terms and conditions with the relevant hotel before purchasing any such products or services. A list of hotel Non-airline Partners is available at this website.
9.6.2 Points may be earned only by the Member whose name appears on the invoice for the hotel stay and by only one Member per hotel stay. Points cannot be split between two or more Members occupying the same room.
9.6.3 Points are awarded for hotel stays purchased at rates deemed eligible by the hotel. Unless otherwise specified by the hotel, Points will not be earned for stays of the following types:
(a) stays purchased as part of package holidays;
(b) free hotel stays;
(c) stays at industry discount rates;
(d) stays at group rates or other special promotional rates; or
(e) stays using Award Certificates or discount certificates.
9.6.4 For hotel Non-airline Partners where Points are earned on the basis of the amount spent, unless otherwise specified by the hotel, Points are earned on the total amount for accommodation, meals, beverages, phone and laundry charged to the room account.
9.6.5 For hotel Non-airline Partners where the Points are earned on a per stay basis, unless otherwise specified by the hotel, consecutive nights at the same hotel will be considered as one stay, regardless of the number of check-ins.

Herein in the fine print are more specifics. FF points cost $$$ to the hotel operator so at the end of the day I suppose it is up to the hotel really to determine when points will be given. I have seen offers of double FF points with some packages but then the cost must have been factored into the rates. My own experience is inconsistencies at the same hotel front desk with different staff.
