I recently received an email re 20% discount being offered for QFF points on Jetstar Classic Awards.

When trying to do an award search for availability on JQ out of Bangkok I can only display Qantas flights to Melboune via say Sydney. Nothing against SYD at all, but would prefer to fly direct!

As Jetstar flies direct to MEL, does this indicate that awards are not available over the span that I'm looking (March/April next year), or is it not possible to look at Jetstar award availability on the QFF site?

Nope, its definitely possible to book JQ awards on the QF site. With the promo it should show 'point discount applied' or something to that wording below in the points box. Maybe there isn't availability?

Why go JQ though? The 20% in points will probably be worth it just to fly QF metal.

You cannot do classic awards out of BKK because QF and JQ have different ticketing arrangements, with an agent responsible in BKK for QF necessitating a visit to show your Credit Card, I suspect that's the reason why they don't have ex BKK JQ options on the web page.

Thanks for that....Looking at a different aspect on the same subject:

I have booked and used QFF points out of Bangkok before and yes, had to visit the Silom office to confirm the transaction.
But, I was in Bangkok.

Making a booking in advance of being in the country, is there any way of confirming the transaction, should one be here in Australia?
Like some way through QF here?

The email states Jetstar Classic Awards, no mention of QF and as explained above it looks as though you can only use QFF points with QF out of BKK.

May I ask this again. I'm fairly sure there would be a yes or no answer, which would probably also apply to FF bookings you make originating in any country other than Australian turf?

If referring to the need to present the credit card to the office in Bangkok, some recent discussion on that here:

If using only points to redeem a flight, I wouldn't think a card would come into it?

One possible way of getting around this and still fly QF is to book via another site like Expedia although no personal experience.

There have been reports of Qantas in Australia looking after it.

Yes, indeed you were correct in the first part, played around a bit more and indeed possible on Jetstar Melbourne direct flights in and out of Bangkok with the discount indicating, later this year.

The 20% discount does not apply to QF flights though.

But, no go for March April next year, where I was originally looking, only Classics showing on actual QF flights via other ports.

Maybe Jetstar award availability shows later closer to the travel time, dunno, the experts will know this?

But, again as I thought, even with the 20% point discount of 96,000, a ridiculous charge of $906.04 is needed for 2 travelling.

Sort of makes the points a bit of a joke when two of us normally fly with one of Air Asia's sales for around $800 all up return for 2, of course via KUL on newer A330's..............and, the QF FF points sit in my pocket waiting for them to become more of an option to use!

I know Qantas has no absolute control over this, but I'm often wondering after many years with QF, CX and SQ, just how valuable and useful these points are in todays' real world.

I would be looking at a YASA myself, a JQ with the 20% discount is 24000 if you can get it as a classic + taxes, by comparison a super saver YASA is 30000 + 9119 THB ($288), as a WP I am earning:
Points Earned for Travel
[TH]Base points[/TH]
5,123

[TH]Cabin bonus for travelling in Discount Economy Class[/TH]
-

[TH]Status bonus awarded for your Platinum membership[/TH]
5,123

[TH]Points that can be earned for this journey[/TH]
10,368*

[TH]Status credits that can be earned[/TH]
40

So I am really only paying 20000 + AUD$288 for my YASA

That's why I fly ASA ( in J preferably) no taxes + I earn miles and SC's
