Only 82 people in QFF, thats a surprisingly small team who are obviously working hard (perhaps more so in the last few weeks ;)), and 8% of points expire

It was another record for Qantas Frequent Flyer last week, as the division reported EBIT of $342 million. All this from a division which accounts for just 82 of the airline's 32,490 employees, according to its annual report.
This is why the Macquarie Equities analyst Russell Shaw recently valued the Frequent Flyer program at more than $2 billion - more than half of the airline's market value - and offered some insight into what makes this business tick.

Right - time to sack the 32,407 others, focus only on the frequent flyer business, and revel in that incredible return on capital. :p

They don't work for Qantas, it's been outsourced since it stated. I work in the same building and share a balcony with them.

Perhaps you share the balcony with the team but under ASX reporting guidelines employees are just that, and thats where the figure is coming from I believe.

I was just stating that they are not QF employed, was not wanting to get into the nitty gritty of the stock exchange details.

You do have to wonder if the QFF figures would be anywhere near as much if they didn't have QFi as an option for redemptions...

I understand, but QF are required to report actual employees which indicates they have 82 employees somewhere in QFF, no doubt a lot of work is outsourced to keep numbers off the balance sheet, its pretty common.

Welcome to AFF BTW.

QF really are the masters of rubery figures. Add this to the "QFi loses $200m"

They want to tell everyone the 80-odd employees earn $300m, but in reality, how much of that earn is due to the whole package of QF offerings? Would the FF arm be successful without the wide range of points-spending opportunities. In much the same way the QFi bears many costs that allow JQ and QFd to make nice profits, and the ability to fly QFi keeps travellers loyal to QFd and JQ.

In much the same way, should Wollowrths only sell those items that have high profit margins? As without the range, some of which may be sold at/below cost, they wont get the customers through the doors to buy the more profitable items.

It's the range of offerings that counts.
