Hi all,

I'll be doing 3 x MEL-PVG return trips during my next qualifying period. Self-funded so almost definitely in Y class cabin. I have some questions regarding maximising SC earn.

  1. Sticking to the "why fly direct when you can connect" mantra, what would be the best routing for this trip? MEL-SYD-PVG is the best cost routing I can find at the moment. As soon as I add in SIN or HGK the cost doubles. :(
  2. When I first came across AFF I read about some cheap J runs around Asia with CX. I've never been able to find these cheap fares though. Do they still exist? I'm looking for Asian holiday destinations and would like to factor in some J runs if possible.
  3. Would a better strategy be to fly Y with QF to HKG/SIN/etc and look for good J routes to PVG from there?

Any other suggestions will be welcomed with open arms. :)

Have you thought about trying to incorporate a Jetstar StarClass leg in there to ramp up the status earn? Eg. MEL - SIN? Less glam of course, but then you can connect to more CX options.

Oh, thanks. I didn't consider a star class leg. I will definitely check it out.

Your name must be an Arrested Development reference? :)

on the cheap J runs - consider the RJ BKK-HKG routes. Otherwise CX J fares from TPE can be attractive.
