QFF status credits and FF points on Cathay Pacific flight

Hey guys,

I am planning a trip to Saigon via HKG and intend on booking with CX. Im booking through a travel website and therefore cannot work out what the fare basis code (booking class) is until I have booked.

A friend of mine recently travelled SYD-HKG return with CX with a QFF numer - she got no FF points or SC points what so ever, even after lodgeing a claim on the QF website. QF said that the fligths were not eligible.

My question is, will I earn SC's and FF points with Qantas FF? I will travel discount ecomomy - the Qantas website provides details of the various discount economy booking classes that DO earn SC's/FF points, but states that only these classes earn SC's/FF points. I wont know the booking class till I book...

I was under the impression that all OneWorld carriers will at the least, credit SC's. I flew AY last year in discount economy and only earnt 25% of the FF points, but recieved all the SC's.

Any experiences?

It really does depend on the booking class. And not all fare earn points/SCs. Only those booking classes listed in the QFF earning tables will earn points/SCs. Anything else is a non-earner.

BHKLMV are the only discount economy booking classes that will earn under a CX flight number if crediting to QFF, and even then at ½ a QFF point per mile.

Can you duplicate the fare/cost on http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/ ?

If so that can give you a guide. Other than that call those who run the "travel website" and ask?

The lowest rate on the CX site rarely gives you FF miles - if it doesn't show Asia Miles, you won't be getting QFF miles either.

Maybe check the price on the CX site to see what a flight with FF miles will cost and then decide from their - if the flight's near the CX lower price, I'd guess it isn't eligible.

I've had issues with this type of scenario - In many cases a third party site will book into a non-earning class on CX.

Best you call (or email) the site involved and ask for the booking class.

I am having the same issues at the moment researching a BKK-SYD return on online travel websites. I really do not understand why they need to make it so difficult. Some people are interested in earning FF points.

I have managed to find a similar itinerary on ITA and have emailed it to some travel agents to see if they can book it for a reasonable cost.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I’m pretty certain the airfare I’m looking at won’t earn any points – it’s just too cheap.
I’m going with a few friends and the cost with return CX flights from SYD-SGN, plus 5 nights’ accommodation works out to be around $1300 total each (depending on the hotel). I had a look at the same airfares on the CX website; they came up at $1365 (in L class which according to QFF website will earn discount economy points)
I called expedia.com.au and they said they cannot tell me the booking code until it’s booked, last time I booked with expedia you could actually see the fare code before you booked...
Bit unfair I reckon!

(1) CX points to post; and

(2) JAL points to post

to a Qantas Freq Flyer account

CX can be fast, and can also fail to automatically post. They tend to batch up flights and post them on a frequent basis.

Here are some data points:
Dec 27 flight, posted Dec 28.
A flight Dec 30 has so far failed to post.
Apr 27 - May 1 flights, posted May 4.
A few flights out of the ones above failed to automatically post.

CX flights post to QFF account every Tuesday but as Mal has pointed they do not always post automatically and may require manual intervention from QF customer care.

A few weeks ago booked MEL-HKG-NRT (return) via the QF web site.

I just noticed the HKG-NRT legs are on CX in an N fare bucket.

I won't be earning SC or miles for this if I understand the QF web site correctly? I'm happy for someone to tell me otherwise though?

I had a look at the CX site and they have their lowest fare indicated for a flight next week, and it will accrue miles. (About $550AUD).

Maybe cancel the HKG-NRT leg and book direct via the CX site?

You could chat to Qantas and see if there is anything they can do, but I assume it's a red-e-deal type fare that books into N class on Cathay ... ie, it will cost considerable bucks to upgrade to a fare that earns correctly.

Call, explain and ask - the worst they can do is to give you a horrendous quote that you pass on!
