I posted this in the Loyalty General Discussion board before I saw this sub=forum where it would be more appropriate.

Hi,

Following my recent trip to the USA I started to do some research on FF programs, and then some more, and then some more. I think I have probably overresearched, and have narrowed down to these 3 but just can't figured out which do go for. I have signed up for most FF programs to look at availability and such

My situation is one where I am looking to earn points predominantly via Credit Card, less so for racking up lots of points from flying.

Flying habits are a trip from Perth to the USA every year or two for two people, with a few domestic flights scattered around.

KrisFlyer
I have 50K points with Velocity(ruled them out due to complete lack of availble reward seats) and 250,000 ANZ points (83,000) KrisFlyer points already
Apparently good value with redemption (About 350,000 points and $2,500 taxes 2 people business return to USA, taxes seem quite high??)
Moderate availability on reward seat, some trouble finding seats.

AsiaMiles
Again can transfer ANZ points across at same rate
Apparently very hard to get any status and have to sign up with MarcoPolo (paid) to get it
Looks about same redemption rate as krisflyer, 350,000 points but this time only about $400 tax
Always seems to be seats available on CX flights for rewards

QFF
Can't transfer in Points in. Availability for flights al seems to be through Cathay anyway and requires more points (about 500,000 for the 2 people business on Cathay)
Potentially able to earn more points locally on CC? - This I am not sure about.

So really it comes down to KrisFlyer which I heard good things about and can carry my virgin points from, but there alliance doesn't seem to share seats much from what I can tell playing with the booking tool on there website and higher taxes, or AsiaMiles/QFF - In which case it comes down to earn/burn experience based mostly on CC spend

Any thoughts/feedback very much appreciated

Welcome to AFF!

I don't have too many opinions to share, though if you're interested in flying on QF, it may be worthwhile noting that for return redemptions Asia Miles points are worth more than QF points for redemptions on QF. Using points outside Qantas Frequent Flyer for Qantas Flights

Amex Explorer will earn you 1.5pt/$ for KF and AM. I haven't seen a card that earns more than 1.5pt/$ for QF.

Look at your preferred destinations for travel - redemptions for travel on the program's home carrier are always cheaper

Thanks for the feedback - Sounds like I should make my descision based on redeption, so likely AsiaMiles is the way to go. QFF was on the list as an alternative based on the fact it might be easier to earn more points
