I have been aware for some time that the QP at CNS Domestic was to close to allow for the new club to open in December.
On the QF website, it states,
"Qantas is building a brand new Qantas club at Cairns Airport, due to open in early December 2009. Due to ongoing construction at the Cairns Domestic Terminal, the current interim Qantas Club lounge will close from 19 October 2009 while the new lounge is built. During this period, eligible members and their guests should contact a Qantas representative at the airport for more information."

So thinking that some form of membership loyalty may come into it, with maybe a coffee voucher or even a free beer on the flight or some small way to say, "Sorry, even though you've paid your membership, here's some thing to say sorry we can't provide the full service that you have paid for"!!

Oh no......,doing what it says on the website and contact the QF rep at the airport, you are told quite abruptly and matter of factly, "what do you want me to do about it", all you are advised is that, yes it is closed. Bad luck for you!!

Anyone else had better experiences at Cairns lately??

Was in Sapporro a few years ago, before JAL became OneWorld. They gave QP+ members about equiv AUD $50 vouchers to spend at food/drinks. Quite generous. There was lots of dried seafood, so I bought that and gave it away as presents. (Even though I thought they might get confiscated upon entry into SYD ).

Would be nice if QF did that to Cairns QP+ pax :!:

Surprising, maybe word hasn't filtered through?

I know in ZQN, where they don't have a lounge, I was given a NZ$50 voucher for food and beverage at a cafe, so it's really surprising you wouldn't get the same treatment in CNS.

I been there 5 times in 2006-2008, never got given any voucher :(
(Edit: Maybe it's new? I did ask if there was a lounge, knowing there wasn't, hoping for a voucher. I haven't been there this year though)

CL can use the AirNZ lounge. They have some sort of agreement for CL members ...

This happened this year. Of note, my dad is an Emerald, but with CX and wasn't given anything, yet I'm a paid QP member (NB) and they gave me the voucher. I didn't even ask, they just said as there wasn't a lounge, they'd give me a voucher instead. I was surprised and very happy.

Damn.... I liked Cairns QP. Hope they improve it.
Like any place above the Tropic of Capricorn, I need copious amounts of booze to tolerate it.

I hope they close the lounges where I travel... I'd prefer to spend the $50 on a decent meal!

Hi guys, this is what I can currently release to you about this:

In August 2007 the Qantas Club at Cairns domestic airport was relocated to a temporary space as part of the airport’s terminal redevelopment program, run by Cairns Airport Ltd.
The interim lounge will ultimately be converted to retail space and to facilitate the associated building works, this lounge will close in October 2009.
Accordingly, there will be no Qantas Club lounge facility for a short period between closure of the interim lounge and opening of the new, permanent facility.

Eligible Qantas Club members and their guests will each be provided with a voucher, redeemable at any airport food and beverage or retail outlet on the day of travel. Vouchers will be available from Qantas representatives at the airport. Vouchers are to the value of $15.

The club in Cairns will reopen at the start of Dec this year.

Cheers.

Seems like there was a service failure here!

Wonder if any outlets sell 6 packs of beer ;)

Actually, it could be fun to ask a random stranger if they want a free feed (no strings attached), and collect a voucher to give to them. I wonder how many weird looks you would get before someone accepted!

I was given a $15.00 voucher as a WP flying Y from CNS yesterday. Two of us got $30.00 worth. Redeemable on the day at any retail outlet, including the bookshop :)
