That’s roughly $3,900 AUD as of today. Travel from March ’23 with a generous 12 month maximum window that accommodates cheap nested trips ex-EU back to SE Asia/Australia. Plenty of those on the FT PFD forum.

Earns 33K to Avios (more if status held eg. QR Platinum) and 33K to AS. I’m a big fan of AS, but a little caution might be warranted as they’ve just recently updated their partner award charts with new wording (“starting from”) which suggests a deval might be coming at some point.

Since the flights are marketed by AA I’m assuming they’ll earn the full suite of status credits and points with Quanniss (unlike QR marketed flights). I’ve given up with QF so not even gonna bother checking their discriminatory Oneworld earn tables which dictates airlines they do/don’t like. Knock yourselves out.
 
This is still the same offer?

Last time I checked, PHL was in play. As was similar pricing to IAD (as return or open jaw combos).

Yeah, looks very similar, SYD. There might be some minor differences. I didn’t see i your thread when posting it as the automated suggestion for duplicate threads didn’t present it. Happy for mods to delete or merge as appropriate.

The other thread was similarly titled but I added the “AA codeshare” later once you realise that it’s an AA fare and books with AA codes on AA.com. Although I believe you can book it with a mix of AA and QR codes elsewhere (which might be useful for QR PC members?).
 
@Gold Member - Could I just ask why nesting and using an EU fare in J would work with this fare? I was thinking about how it could work for my own personal use but I missing how it would be best used. Any chance you could share your insight on how you saw it working?

What sectors are you trying to “nest”?
 
What I was looking to do is this. I suspect I have got the wrong end of the stick.

Take advantage of the flight from CGK to NYC. Park the return for about 12 months.

Grab a flight from US to EU (park the return for 12 months to get me back to NYC). Or just a one way perhaps.

See if I could find a deal from EU to Syd (and park the return to EU for about 11 months or so to line up with my return back to get the return flight from NYC to CGK).

Naturally will need to get back from CGK at the end.

But I could have this all about the wrong way and misunderstood what the OP was suggesting (and finding a good J fare from EU to OZ is not easy I guess).

In theory something like that’s possible but CGK is the final stop, so you need to get from there to somewhere else.

If based in Oz (or SE Asia), it’s reasonably straightforward to get to the US and potentially nest some side trips to Europe etc. If there are any decent Euro-Oz/Asia fares, then that also gets interesting - assuming one can get their stuff together to plan out 12 mths.
 
Thanks Syd. Thats the plan. I want to avoid a situation like this year where I left everything to the last minute and it was all too late and frankly way too expensive to do anything. So I am trying to forward plan as much as possible and I am prepared to lock in dates.

I think ideally I would be able to position so that the return leg from Oz to EU was around Xmas time (and the return from US to CGK) was around Jan. The challenge is whether it can be done for a reasonable price. Hopefully with the outbound of each flight being in non peak season the return legs in peak might not matter as much (or so my hopeful theory goes).

Nesting can be a very simple return flight back to Australia or Asia, or something a bit more elaborate as you’ve detailed. Sounds like you’ve got a good understanding of it all.

In the routing in the example you described, you are double nesting; a RT US-EU, do Europe, and then nest another RT EU-AU. I’ve found that these return fares are among the cheapest around in premium cabins. Just leave plenty of time on either side of each separate ticket to de-risk and you should be fine.

Pick the right combination of carriers to align with your airline FF preference (eg. Qantas) and on three separate paid fares you can most likely achieve 1000-1500 status credits. You could then spread the earn either side of your FF anniversary date so that you can far more easily qualify for Platinum for two years back to back. You could also do a similar thing with a 12 month RTW fare with nested returns.

One advantage of QR is they’ll check through luggage to another OW carrier on seperate bookings. Handy if you’re happy to complete the cycle on a QR JFK-DOH-CGK//QF CGK-SYD-(xx_).

As above, I’d put a buffer in there on the outbound (as a min).
