Firstly, I am sure that the following questions have been asked and answered on AFF before, but I'm hoping someone won't mind answering them for me again: I did search, but it's a case of information overload - there are so many threads on the topic of carry-on duty-free alcohol that it's hard to find anything current, and answering my specific questions.

That aside, a couple of quick questions re carry-on duty free alcohol when returning to Australia:

1) I understand that the normal requirement is that carry-on duty free alcohol must be purchased at the last international airport you travel through on your trip back to Australia, and that it must be delivered to you at the gate on a security-sealed bag. I have, however, read a few veiled references that the delivered-to-the-gate rule doesn't apply when buying at an airport in the USA - that you only need the alcohol to be in a clear, sealed bag with the receipt clearly visible, not that it must be delivered to you at the gate. Is this correct?

2) I'm a little confused about the rules regarding carry-on duty free alcohol and domestic transit stops. The rules seem to state that if you have a domestic transit stop inside Australia on an Australia-bound flight, you will be re-screened at the transit stop and any duty-free alcohol will be taken off you. Does this only apply for transit stops where you are continuing on with the same "international" flight? Or for all transit stops, even if transferring from an international to a domestic flight number?

As a specific example, I'm flying QF8 DFW-BNE in June, and transferring to a QF domestic BNE-MEL flight. Will any duty-free I buy in DFW be taken off me at BNE? Or will I be OK, with it only being taken off me if I was continuing on QF8 BNE-SYD (as BNE would be a transit stop on what is still considered one international flight)?

Thanks y'all.

1. Correct, last month bought D/F in lax and I carried it to the gate with me. At DFW they deliver to gate as you board since there it's mixed domestic and international travellers.

2. If transiting at an international terminal (such as QF8 at BNE International) then LAG limits do apply. There is no such problem at Australian Domestic Terminals.

Thanks. Do you know why the rules are different if departing from the USA? Aus government trusts USA to better enforce airport security than other countries?

Also, re your comment about mix of domestic and international pax at DFW - so they have both domestic and international flights departing from the terminal QF uses there (Terminal 4 from memory)?

Great, thanks for clarifying. Glad I can buy in DFW rather than at ripoff Australian duty free prices. Any idea what the selection is like at DFW (of scotch, to be specific)?

T4 or TBIT? T4 have been delivering to the gate for years and it was still the same in late Feb when I was there. Not that it's a big deal - just need to leave enough time to buy it. For a litre of Ardbeg for $50, I'll make sure I'm there in time! :D

Cheers
Febs.

EDIT: never mind, thought you were replying to my post, not sertfy's. Woops.

+1 - Laphroig or Lagavulin here though.

TBIT - since it's a 'departures only' area they let you carry it from the shop. FWIW, I've never bought duty free at T4 - never even noticed such a store to be honest.

Don't try and explain governments without going into 'conspiracy theory' and cheap duty free from Asia.

It's Terminal "D".

The duty Free store is 'Buckaroo' duty free - not as cheap as ex NZ but generally not as expensive as on arrival in Oz.

Strangely enough I believe it's operated by the Naunce Group - the mob who have a virtual DutyFree monopoly in Oz.
