Hi guys...just need some advice.

I'm currently booked to fly Delta into LAX, have a 90 minute connection before taking Qantas from LAX to BNE. I actually have a choice of taking my luggage with me or giving it to my dad who has much more generous connections. Does anyone know if Delta will through check me from Durham-Raleigh and allow for a quick transfer at LAX, or am I better off just flying without checked baggage.

Are you going home? Do you NEED the checked bag? That timing is very tight so you are likely to get the bag on the next flight. I am more worried about checked bags going somewhere - if they miss a connection coming home and it means the airline will deliver it to my home a few days later, it wouldn't bother me.

Safe option is to give it to your dad to be honest.

Is this on the one ticket?

If so then DL will check your bags through to BNE when you check-in. You would not see them at LAX.

DL routinely check my bags through to SYD (QF12) for me with the DL and QF flights on different tickets / PNRs (as do AC, AS, UA & AA - WS DO NOT) - unless something has changed in the last couple of weeks that I've missed.

HOWEVER, with a 90 minute or less connection I'm never 100% confident that my bags will arrive with me on QF12, and would expect to be one of the 'lucky' ones to see a 'member of the ground staff' after deplaning. Luckily in these instances they've always arrived into Sydney an hour later (sometimes less) on QF108. Unfortunately things won't be this smooth for you going into BNE.

Good 'ol LAX baggage handling...
