I've recently been upgraded to Silver Velocity and have been given a free lounge pass. I would like to use this next Thursday when I have a DJ boarding pass.

My understanding is that when you either buy a single entry lounge pass or have gold/platinum access you can bring in one guest free. I will be travelling on DJ that night with friend who is Velocity red. Will he gain free access as my 'plus 1' or is the free pass allow one person only?

Thanks

Re: Quick question about complimentary lounge pass when being upgraded to Silver Velo

A single entry pass allows entry for one person only. See here: Entry & Access | Virgin Australia

"Single entry fee allows access for one person only, so must be purchased for each person (adult or child)."

My understanding is that the only way to have "guesting" capability as a Silver member is if you purchase membership to The Lounge which will entitle you to bring in one guest.

And it should be mentioned on that note that it’s only $269 a year with no joining fee, so if you don’t think you’ll get to Gold, but will remain Silver, buying Lounge membership is very affordable.

It's gone up to $300 but I agree. And if you do eventually make it to Gold within the 12 months of your lounge membership you'll get a prorata refund of your $300 which is a pretty good deal.

The single pass only entitles you to entry and your friend will have to pay.

But here is an idea  see if you can spot an AFFer lol there are some who will always offer to take you or your friend in the lounge as their guest.

Usually when I randomly struck up a conversation with someone, I always invite them as my guest to the lounge :)

Re: Quick question about complimentary lounge pass when being upgraded to Silver Velo

This exact question was asked fairly recently, but I can't recall the enquirer ever posting the outcome.

According to the Velocity website, newly attained Silver status members receive 2 complementary passes to the lounge.

I attained Silver a year ago and I can say I did receive them at that point and redeemed them exactly as the OP wishes to do, so I'd suggest you need to make a direct enquiry with Velocity.

Good luck and to me when I was Silver, the discounted Lounge membership was genuinely worth while and when I attained Gold, the pro-rata refund was credited promptly.

One important and disappointing issue with the 2 complimentary passes are that they are only valid for the first 3 months of being a Silver member and not the entire year that you are given membership.

If you buy a Lounge annual membership can you use the Lounge when NOT flying with Virgin? I know that Gold and Platinum FFs can.

Yes, but for every 100SC you earn, you’ll receive another lounge pass (may yet to be implemented)…

No, that would be Anytime Access, which is a benefit of status and can’t be bought.

Re: Quick question about complimentary lounge pass when being upgraded to Silver Velo

The one you get for silver allows access for 2 people. It's in the terms and I have used it myself. I had to explain it to a stuff member who wasn't up to speed

So Sam I should have 4 passes to give out with 420SC since 25 Aug but (yet to be implemented)…

Worth pointing out that guest passes can't be given to anyone else - an element of the program that I'm not a fan of, but that's the way it works.

Thanks for that then they will probably just sit in my account. :-)

Oh bugger, so the single passes to the lounge you are given when you earn Silver Velocity status CANNOT be used by a different person who is also flying (also with a Virgin boarding pass) with you?

So it is a different set of terms and conditions than the Single Entry Pass?

From 6 'Restrictions' part 'e.' of the Single Entry Pass terms and conditions:

You cannot transfer Online Passes to other people (for example, to other Velocity Members) but you can use your Online Passes to enable other people (who are travelling with you) to gain access to Virgin Australia lounge.

I have two single entry passes to redeem, I'm a (newbie) Silver Velocity member and am seriously considering purchasing lounge membership. I was intending to use these two passes for myself and a co-worker to access the lounge in Melbourne in a couple of weeks time - is that not possible?

You will be able to use the passes in this way to enable both of you to access the lounge. The passes are not transferable in that you can only use them for yourself or for a guest who is travelling with you. They are recorded on your Velocity account so they can't be printed out/emailed to someone else for their use.

Thanks very much DGW - so the terms and conditions of the "Silver membership" single entry pass to the lounge are the same as any other purchased single entry pass. Brilliant. Thanks very much indeed!

Re: Quick question about complimentary lounge pass when being upgraded to Silver Velo

It seems that the length of usage for a silver guest pass has been extended. As a silver vff since 8 july, it's coming up that my Lounge passes are valid until 9 January next year which is nice (though they won't last THAT long in my hands). I'm also wondering what's happened to the notion of extra Lounge passes for ever 100SCs, having earnt 140 since the upgrade. And to clarify, travelling with a relative on Friday, no guesting is possible with the Lounge passes and thus with us both using a single entry, the two are used up in one fell swoop?

Re: Quick question about complimentary lounge pass when being upgraded to Silver Velo

I'm also wondering what's happened to the notion of extra Lounge passes for ever 100SCs,

VA has been quoted as saying "our members don't want it, so we're no longer going to offer it" (or something to that effect).

All I know is that they didn't ask me about it, so I'm wondering just how many members "didn't want it" and who were they (I'm getting my stones ready for the stoning as we speak).

I've got my pitchfork at the ready. Did I have my summation of Loung eentry correct? 2 passes = 2 people, as opposed to 2 passes = 1 member + guest on two occasions?

One pass for one person.
